Here is the finished 1942 8th Army Grant Command Tank. It took longer than I imagined and in order to finish the remaining GBs in time for the two GBs I am to lead in the New Year this will be the only kit that I can now build in this GB.

Very nice !
And was there a particular purpose for the ladder, other than the obvious ?

Nice build and a really good description of the process. Sure looks the part.

Excellent result David. Please put us out of our misery - what's the ladder for, so Monty could get a better view of what was ahead?

John, Shaun,
The ladder was simply his preferred method of boarding the tank.
If you google Montgomery and Grant Tank on images you should find a picture of him climbing aboard one of his Grants in this way.

apparently he was only 5'5" so I imagine he took a ladder EVERYWHERE! :ha:

Great build David.. a new interpretation of a fondly remembered kit..

Thanks Mike, this won't be the last as I have plans (so far) for around ten further examples of this kit-
8th Army Grant
8th Army Lee.
8th Army Grant Command Tank (disguised as Sherman)
8th Army (2nd, diesel) Montgomery Command Tank preserved at IWM Lambeth
Grant Mine flail
79 Div. Grant CDL
British Grant ARV mk1
Soviet Lee
US Army M3A1 Lee
US Army M31 ARV

Using the ladder to actually get on board did pass fleetingly through what I laughingly refer to as a brain but I thought there might be a grander military reason

Well you are certainly keen on the Lee/Grant series of tanks David and I look forward to seeing some of your further builds.
