Chip's Soviet Spitfire***Finished***
This will be my entry for the GB:
1/72 Revel Supermarine Spitfire Mk V:
The kit comprises of two grey sprues of parts, and one clear for the canopy:
On first inspection the parts have quite nice detailing, fine panel lines, accurately scaled rivets, and a nice bit of detail on the cockpit interior:
The instructions are well laid out in the usual Revell "book" style:
I have no decals for this as of yet, and being a cheapskate I intended to print off my own.

Re: Chip's Soviet Spitfire
That is actually a pretty nice kit chip. I have a few staring at me from the stash right now.
I may have some Soviet markings if you need them. Any particular aircraft in mind?

Re: Chip's Soviet Spitfire
Thanks for the offer OT.
I hope to do this one, as it seems the most colourful one on the Wings Palette site:
http://img.wp.scn.ru/camms/ar/52/pics/1_4_b2.jpg;
I have made a start on the painting:
The flash has changed the colour, but I used Revell's Green-Grey, as per the colour guide.

Yes, a good start Chip. Skill Level 3? I'll bet you have that done in a week then
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Ahem! My P-38 is a skill level 3, and it's taken several weeks to get it to the present shambolic state. I'll get demoted down to skill level 2 if it goes on much longer.ShaunW wrote:Yes, a good start Chip. Skill Level 3? I'll bet you have that done in a week then

Re: Chip's Soviet Spitfire
To be honest this would be a great contender for a Blitzbau.ShaunW wrote:Yes, a good start Chip. Skill Level 3? I'll bet you have that done in a week then
After a week being pampered by the in-laws I have got around to doing a bit of modelling.
The fuselage has gone together fairly well, with only a bit of filler required on the top, and a slither will be needed for the wing roots and wing tips:
The bottom requires a bit more work though:
Out with the filler.....

Ouch! Never mind, no one will look at your bottom anyway.

Slap on plenty of filler and don't park it on a mirror. Don't worry, we'll say nowt - for a small fee of course

Re: Chip's Soviet Spitfire
That must be where the skill level 3 comes in!
I've given up worrying about the undersides too much.
Cheers

Re: Chip's Soviet Spitfire
After following Shaun's advice and "slapping on plenty of filler", followed by plenty of sanding of course, it looks much better:
I am now quite proud of my bottom
The remainder of the build is progressing quite nicely:
I have decided to try and split the canopy so that I can pose it open. Out with the razor saw....

Cracking on with the painting now, first attempt at using paper masking. I copied the original plans and enlarged them to the correct size, cut them out and taped them on:
The base coat of Grey has already been applied, looking forward to the unveiling when dry....

Great recovery Chip. Looking very smart at this point.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale
