mmD's Pairacobras **Finished**

Post by mightymikeD »

Time for a bit of fun, so I'll be doing a tandem build of the Airfix Airacobra 1/72 alongside the Hobby Boss version, also in 1/72 although anyone familiar with HB will be chuckling at that. Both will be Russkies, of course

Remember,"The Lady loves Milktray" :)

Although the Hobbyboss version probably reads "The Laddy loves Milktray". :ha:

I'll tell thee one thing, though: if you're looking for the easy life in a Blitzbau (and not hung up on the whole "Accuracy" thing) Hobbyboss are the kits for you.. this Airacroba is at the decalling stage. Pics to follow

Mike watch out for the HobbyBoss decals they do not like Micro Set but strangle do like micro Sol.

If you use Micro Set first like you normally would the decals go all soft and break up.

If you just use Micro Sol they behave and settle down as they should.

thanks for the heads up, mate. I have to say, Hobbyboss decals are the worst I've ever come across.. and that includes Amodel, ARK and PM Kits.. I find that they will disintegrate at whim no matter what you do.. however, I'll follow your advice and see how we go..

Is the HB Hairy Cobra done yet Mike or have those decals spoiled your day?

Today spoiled my day quite nicely on its own.. decals are going on (and behaving themselves thus far) Of course, I forgot about the complicated masking job on the canopy in all this excitement, so that's going to slow the Huey Anaconda down..

I am shocked and stunned to report that the decals have gone on just fine.. mostly. I had one lot of rudder numerals disintegrate but otherwise it's been fine.
Method: soak in water, regularly checking how they're doing (it appears to take the decals a while to slide off the backing paper but when they do, they do quickly and become floating objects.) Apply to recently Klear'd surface and manipulate with a soft, wet brush. Gently.
They seem to have settled down nicely but the coats of Klear that they're going to get should make sure of that. This one is nearly done..

That's the method I use too, and it's usually pretty good. Techmod decals are a bit fragile and need a bit of care while pushing them into position, but most other ones work fine.

cheers

One Aircamacobor down..

One AAARGH with decals and otherwise a very straightforward build. It is, of course, a tail sitter (d'oh!), a small blob of blu tack is currently keeping it upright. I'll come up with a better solution.
