Stars & Bars Spitty *** Finished ***

Post by Old_Tonto »

Here is my entry for this group build:

It is the Hasegawa kit which I have built several times before & I am sure will just fall together. I have said it now.

I aim to start this one next week sometime. Still need to finish off a Mil Mi-2 and a Sea Fury before I start anything else. :???:

Nice one OT. This has got to be easier than those helo builds of yours, it is Hasegawa after all

Good stuff. I'm seeing a lot of Spitfires on here lately and am becoming tempted to build one for myself - it's been a long time since one last fell victim to my attempts at modelling!

I bet you thought that I had forgotten about this one didn't you. It just went on the back burner whilst Xmas planning etc. got done.
So with that all out of the way I have made some progress.

The innards went together with no issues other than I forgot to take any pictures.

I have closed up the fuselage. Normally these Hasegawa kits fall together but this one needed some filler along every join. :???:

Next up was the only modification that needs to be made - remove the bulge over the wheel bays as this was a post war mod to facilitate
wider wheels I think.

Image
Here you can see that I have done the port wing & am about to start on the other.

Once that was done I re-scribed the panel lines that I had sanded away & attached the wing to the fuselage.

Image
This is more like a Hasegawa fit - no filler required except on the underside. Another case of Spitfire bottom.

So this is where I am up to now. Tail on, wingtips attached & chin fitted:

A little more sanding required & masking of the canopy today me thinks. ;-)

Well it might not have fallen together quite as expected OT but it's looking good now nevertheless. A bit of filler on her derriere worked a charm for Chip (oooeerr madam)

I have been grabbing a few minutes with this one whenever I can.

Got some paint on yesterday before heading off to the match.

Image

I really like the look of this one. Never done a clipped wing Mk8 before & the medium sea grey over azure blue undersides makes for an unusual scheme. 8-)

More to follow. :smilie_flagge3:

Got some decals on today:

With hindsight it would have been better to paint on the wing tip stripes. As it is I will need to touch up with some paint anyway.

We live & learn. Happy New Year to you all. :-D

Don't worry, I have fixed the gunsight.

Very near the end now:

Image

I just need to add the exhaust stubs, tail wheel doors & paint in the navigation lights. Must also clean up those canopy lines. I never get those right!

I was going to do a panel line wash but I think it looks pretty good clean so I will just do a little exhaust staining & leave it at that. Hope to get this one finished off tonight. 8-)
