Tonight I added the decals and they all behaved and settled down well with micro set/sol even the wing yellow stripes.

I took my Tamiya P-51 out of the stash to compare the two and the Airfix kit scrubs up well against its higher costing competition. Tamiya scores better on the finer surface detail but Airfix two sets of flaps makes it more attractive.

Cost wise there is not to much in it, the Airfix kit was just under £8 and the Tamiya was just under £12.

I think it just comes down to three things:
(1) do you want the flaps down?
(2) Do the decals in the box meets your needs?
(3) availability & cost?

Interesting cost comparison! In Canada the Tamiya version is twice the cost of the Airfix in the LHS. That makes the decision which to buy a little easier. The Canadian importer of Tamiya is well known for having a premium price, particularly compared to the US.

Cheers

Looks very good Splash. Personally I'd save £4 and go with Airfix, particularly for the flaps down option which is a P-51 characteristic seen in many photographs of machines on the ground and thus is a worthwhile addition to the kit (unlike similar options which also feature in some Spit and Hurri kits).

That looks really good, Splash.

May I ask how you have attached it to the 'stand' for painting?

Hi Steve

The stand has two crocodile clips, I just connected one to the thin strip between the two wheel wells.
