Brickie's Storch *Finished*

What did your Secret Santa send you this Christmas? Have you been naughty or nice? Did you get a Trumpeter 1/48 Lump of Coal, or a nice old Airfix classic? Your builds should be chronicled here, starting Decmber 25th (ho, ho, ho!) and lasting through January 31st. Admins: Brickie and Paul Bradley

Brickie's Storch *Finished*

Post by Brickie »

Right, after a certain amount of deliberation I've decided to make the Academy Storch my "Secret Santa" build and have ordered some etched and some Hungarian decals with resin skis to complement it.

Depending on how this goes, and how my Small Scale Armour build goes, I may do the others in Jan as well.

Does anyone know if the Hungarians did white distemper or just left it green? The decal sheet suggests the latter.

I have seen plenty of Luftwaffe ones with winter camo but not Hungarian ones even if they had skis, but that doesn't rule it out completely either.

I have a couple of Hungarian AF books at home - I can check when I get back.

Aha! The care package from Hannants has arrived bearing decals, etch, resin and paint masks. I can begin!

I checked my references and none has photos of Storches with winter camo or skis. However, there are plenty of pictures of other types with temporary white distemper finishes, so it would be a good bet that Storches were finished likewise. As to skis - that's anyone's guess.

I'll be watching this one with interest. I have one in the stash and am thinking of doing a captured bird. either RAF or Russian.

All the best.

While you're at it, can you see if there are any references for ground crew uniforms? I've a box of Revell 1/72 Luftwaffe personnel that I can use if they look close enough.

The cockpit looks really great Brickie; which parts are the original kit and what is after-market in your photo?

Nice work on the cockpit, Brickie.

I'll check those references later - they may well have used LW-style overalls.
