Thank you very much, Secret Santa!!!
That jolly fat man in the red and white has provided me with a Special Hobby Tempest II! It looks lovely in the box, and there's resin and PE too, so I'll get to practice some underused - and underdeveloped - skills. I'm sure there'll be some 'gotchas' too.
We're staying with family, so no progress in the foreseeable, but I'm well chuffed with it.
Thanks again.
regards,
Martin

Looking forward to seeing, unfamiliar with the Special Hobby Tempest.
Re: Martin's Secret Czech
Hmmm! I've read some reviews and they all mention that the wheel well insert does not fit without serious sanding to both it and the upper wing pieces. So, looks like I've got some serious thinnage coming on . . . unless I build it wheels-up?

Pics! We got pics!
Rather nice box art (although on one of those pestilential SH crushable end-opening boxes):
Sprues (apologies, the flash has wiped out a lot of the details). Panel lines are very shallow and thin - may disappear under a few coats of paint; I'll probably re-emphasise the control surface hinge lines, but lovely detail. Looks like a simple kit, though . . . .
. . . until you glimpse the resin. Again, some of the exquisite detail has been wiped by the flash, but it looks gorgeous. However, integrating this little lot is likely to be where the 'gotchas' are:
Sprues appear to have visible mould release residue on them, so they'll get a nice warm soapy bath and scrub later today.

Martin

Re: Martin's Secret Czech
Would think it has some similarities to their Sea Fury for which the wheel bay insert did need quite a bit of sanding down

I'd agree - the Mk.II looks good in HSS.

The one in the RAF Museum at Hendon looks nice.
A very nice looking kit Martin. I'd be daunted by some of that small resin - how do you get it off of the mould block without breaking it?!
Looking forward to seeing your progress.
Cheers
Al.

It'll be fine! After all, what could possibly go wrong?

Re: Martin's Secret Czech
I have always liked the look of the Pakistani Tempests.
http://www.hawkertempest.se/InPakistan.htm
I think they were standard RAF desert scheme, mid-stone & dark earth over azure blue.
