AndrewR's Tamiya Kettenkrad 1/48 *** Fertig! ***

What did your Secret Santa send you this Christmas? Have you been naughty or nice? Did you get a Trumpeter 1/48 Lump of Coal, or a nice old Airfix classic? Your builds should be chronicled here, starting Decmber 25th (ho, ho, ho!) and lasting through January 31st. Admins: Brickie and Paul Bradley

Thanks Adrian, I've been enjoying this because it's a bit different to my usual scale and it has lots of possibilities to personalize it. I've always liked doing little dioramas with my vehicle builds. That's why I liked the Matchbox AFV kits, as they all came with the diorama base.

This evening, I managed to get the preliminary paint onto Herr Schlump.

Image

He still needs a few washes and some highlighting, but it feels like definite progress. As you can see, he's slumping on thin air at the moment (Luftschlumpen?) as I haven't started on his slumping post. I have a block of balsa and I'll drape a PVA soaked tissue over it to make a tarp.

Image

I've also worked on the diorama base, which was a bit glittery from the sand in the scatter I used (I got it from the craft shop, where it comes under the flower arranging stuff - it's much cheaper than buying railway scatter materials  ).

Image

I gently sprayed patches of my sand primer over the top of the scatter. It was in the airbrush cup from priming the little Kettenkrad and Herr Schlump, so waste not, want not. :-D You can see it has acted like a highlight in places. I was pleased with the overall effect.

Image

And finally of course, the silly photo...

cheers

Herr Schlumpf has had an umber wash and is now drying out.

Pictures to follow.

The sand primer over the base has worked well, it has given it just enough variation.

Herr Schlumpf is looking good, did the wash wake him up?

Regards Splash
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

He's still looking pretty slumped!
The face and hands get the next wash, slices of cucumber over the eyes, etc.

That fella on the back is definitely up to something. One minute he has his hands together, looking very suspicious, the next he's trying a little too hard to look relaxed and casual.

I see what you mean from this photo, but it's the camera angle that makes him look look like he has his hands together.

I really haven't reposed him. Honest, guv. :ha:

I'm telling you Andrew he's up to something while your back is turned. Have you ever seen a documentary series called Toy Story? It blows the lid on what these characters get up to when they think we're not watching.

Now you mention it.... although another favourite documentary series I saw suggests that sort of thing was done a long time ago. In a galaxy far far away as it happens...

Yes they did, and as a child I recall watching their live feed on a Friday!
