OT's Crusader *** Fini ***

What did your Secret Santa send you this Christmas? Have you been naughty or nice? Did you get a Trumpeter 1/48 Lump of Coal, or a nice old Airfix classic? Your builds should be chronicled here, starting Decmber 25th (ho, ho, ho!) and lasting through January 31st. Admins: Brickie and Paul Bradley

Canopy closed up after a bit of a fit issue:

Image

I had to thin down the back of the front portion but it's on now. I still need to cut out the masking for the windscreen. I was doing that yesterday morning when a large mirror fell on me. :???: Ouch. So I have not done any more as my arm is hurting a lot.

I must confess that I didn't know how big the crusader was.

A large mirror? Ouch! Hope that doesn't keep you away too long OT, the Crusader is coming along nicely.

Old_Tonto wrote:Then the missile rails will need some attention as I don't think the French Navy use the twin launcher so I will have to make single launchers for the Matra Magics.
The Academy kit contains a pair of the single launchers. Would pictures help?

Any pics you have would help Rob. I found the single launch rails on this kit that attach to the missiles before attaching to the twin launcher but they are much too shallow. I have a few pics that show the launch rail mounted on a pylon so i should be able to make that.

Thanks for the comments guys, it always helps when people are supportive. :)

I am just about at the primer stage but as I have mentioned the missile launch pylons are the twin launcher type whilst the French use the single launchers.

Here you can see a Matra Magic 550 misile on the sidewinder launch rail:
Image

As you can see the fins would touch the sides of the aircraft.

I need to make a pylon to attach the rail to, like this:

That is my job for this evening.

Here goes then:

The picture shows part of the Academy sprue. Parts 41 are the actual launchers, parts 38 are the pylons you're looking for, and part 39 has nothing to do with this whatsoever :-D The Magic lying on top of the sprue is one of those I'll be sending your way in a few days. Together, they should give you a good idea of the relative proportions you're looking for.
The pylon is 22.6mm long, 2.3mm wide, and approximately 0.75mm thick.

No perminant damage to me or the mirror. I broke it's fall.
Do you think I will get 7 years good luck? :ha:

Thanks to the info from Rob I have cobbled together some pylons from evergreen & a pair of launch rails from an F-5A.

Image

I think they look ok so I have attached them this morning.

Tonight I will give it a coat of primer to identify any flaws. Fingers crossed. :smilie_flagge3:

Thanks for the kind comments guys.

I cut my finger last night so have not done much today.

Got some primer paint on though from a rattle can.

No major issues.
I will leave it overnight to dry and then on with the blue tomorrow. I hope.

I have to make some decals so had better do a little research in front of the fire this evening. 8-)
