Splash's SS F4U-1D "Royal Navy" ***Finished***

What did your Secret Santa send you this Christmas? Have you been naughty or nice? Did you get a Trumpeter 1/48 Lump of Coal, or a nice old Airfix classic? Your builds should be chronicled here, starting Decmber 25th (ho, ho, ho!) and lasting through January 31st. Admins: Brickie and Paul Bradley

What's the deal with the white dot in the centre of the fuselage roundels, BTW?

No idea I can't find any information about it anywhere so I think I might paint them red.

Busy day on the bench today working on four builds, three GB's and a for fun whiff.

Splash,

I don't know about the white spot, but I've seen a Firefly with the same sort of thing. Was it a start in painting out the red markings for Far East operations?

Is the Whif, a Sea Mustang, perchance?

Thanks for the info about the white spot, in that case it will stay.

Spot on with your guess about the Sea Mustang here is the build thread.

Excellent work Splash!

Yours is the best job of seen of that kit in a long time, and the 'salt method' was inspired!

I find the volume and quality of your builds inspiring (and daunting) as well

Your SS should be thrilled.

Adrian

Thanks for the comments Guys.

Adrian the quality of this build was mainly down to the quality of the kit, it was a real pleasure to build and thanks to my SS as its not a kit I had thought about getting as my LMS does not stock that brand.

The salt technique was interesting and i will use it again, but probably on a bigger scale, the volume of my kits is a bit misleading as I have more started but not finished kits that I should, but on the upside when I finish them in clumps it looks like I have been quicker than I actually am.

Thats why I like GB's it gives me deadlines to work to so I work faster.
