Splash's SS F4U-1D "Royal Navy" ***Finished***

What did your Secret Santa send you this Christmas? Have you been naughty or nice? Did you get a Trumpeter 1/48 Lump of Coal, or a nice old Airfix classic? Your builds should be chronicled here, starting Decmber 25th (ho, ho, ho!) and lasting through January 31st. Admins: Brickie and Paul Bradley

Oh Splash that looks fantastic, the over spraying of the chipping (to me) looks like it has blended the chipping in, so it's more of a wear look. Top hole Sir.

Splash,

I too think it's looking great - but you don't get away that easily. :)

It looks like you may have got some metal 'chips' on the fabric covered portions of the wing, or is it my eyes? If so - and you're bothered - you could do some touching up with slightly darkened blue to signify a fresh coat of paint in these areas.

How are you going to weather the decals?

regards,

Martin

That's what decals are for :ha: to cover my mistakes.

I will probably touch up the decals with a drop of silver dry brushed on or add some tonal variation using oil paints.

I am really enjoying this build I thought the all over blue was going to be a problem but by luck I have finished up with a worn blotchy look.

Splash,

I think that looks great! But I don't think it was by luck . . . .

That's a very good finish, you can practically see the salt water corroding everything :)

I have given it a coat of satin varnish and it has nicely toned down the weathering effect.

Just a quick update.

The kit is fully built minus the canopy and just needs the prop and u/c painted.

The build should be finished over the weekend.
