Brickie's Desert Spit *Finished*

What did your Secret Santa send you this Christmas? Have you been naughty or nice? Did you get a Trumpeter 1/48 Lump of Coal, or a nice old Airfix classic? Your builds should be chronicled here, starting Decmber 25th (ho, ho, ho!) and lasting through January 31st. Admins: Brickie and Paul Bradley

Brickie's Desert Spit *Finished*

Post by Brickie »

Progress going well on the Storch, nothing else on the bench at the moment so I cracked open the Italeri Spitfire Vb.

Decided to do it in the second optional scheme - the Western desert clipped wing spit with the smaller air filter (the box art has a full-wing one on Malta with the big bulky filter.

All went together well, couple of slight fit issues but nothing some filling and sanding won't cure, and a missing tail piece now replaced in double-quick time courtesy of Lancfan and the Royal Mail...

I used this kit as the bases for my Messer-Spit. What a beautiful kit it is. I want to get a couple more of these.

Don't tell Old Tonto I said that. :ha: :ha:

Hey Dirk, that's a Spitfire you're talking about, not a Mustang. Have you been on the Jägermeister again? :ha:

This one's nearly done - just need some weathering and basing with a couple of RAF crew figures and it's done.

Hope the blue's about right - I mixed up some Tamiya "Light Blue" with some old Citadel Colour "Ice Blue" and hoped.

That blue looks fine to me, not that I'm an expert on Azure Blue, mind. :)

Done some weathering with pastels and a smattering of paint chipping, and I'm calling this a finish. Pleased with the final result and a nice kit to build.

Hopefully I can combine "Being at home" with "the hours of daylight" sometime over the next few days to get a better photo for the completions gallery.

Very nice  I must admit that the shadow of the gun barrel on that last shot had me stumped for a minute - it looked like you had a double barrelled cannon in the wing. Once I put my glasses on, everything became clear.

By the way, the crowbar on the inside of the door is only red in post-war Spitfires, otherwise it's interior green (which cuts down on the painting chores a bit :) ). But who cares?

cheers

I'm more of a Hurricane man usually but this was a nice kit to build and I may well get another. Thanks, Secret Santa

Two SS kits Brickie, congrats!

Great job on the Spit (and in a week too) - I'm seriously impressed!
