HI, I have never tried one of these before, or a GB for that matter.

Bari, this model builds up very well just as all of these ex- Matchbox kits do and is a good first tank.

OK, done a little bit on this Found drilling the sprockets out a bit fiddly though.

I could use some advice on the tracks though, They are of a flexible rubber, what paint is best for these? I am assuming that they are best painted flat and then joined up and put around the wheels, and then touched up should the flexing pop the paint off, is this correct? Also the same with the suspension and wheels I intend to paint them first and also the area they fit into before fitting them.

Welcome to the wonderful world of GBs!

As for your questions, I'll let people who know their AFVs better than I (luckily that's everyone) answer.. but yes, you'd better paint the suspension and wheels first, I think.

Hello Bari.
What I do does tend to vary with what I'm doing at the time, and what I feel most appropriate for the subject.
Yes, you would generally paint the tracks before you join them.
For Second War tanks such as the Sherman.
First a coat of Matt Black or Dark Grey as a base.
Second, using an old brush that the bristles have spread to get the paint into the crevices of the track, Dark Earth, Sand, Rust or what ever is appropriate for the subject. Alternatively, a thinned wash will do the same job.
Finally, dry brush with Natural Steel, this is usually a light coat, but does vary. (For post 1960ish use aluminium.
That's what I do most often.
good luck with Sherman, I've not built it yet.
I wish, that I knew what was doing!

Good job drilling out the sprockets. Most people wouldn't bother.
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....

That must of been a daunting task drilling those sprocket wheels out. Well done

Terrific work Bari. Drilling out the sprockets may have been tedious but the rewards will be worth the effort.

Thanks for the nice comments and the tips on tracks, have been pottering today making very tiny stretched sprue lifting rings and a headlight guard plus some little half rings for the steps up the side of the turret. At least thats what I think they look like in the photo I have been using. My eyes are now watering and there are little plastic rings all over the place, they ping out of the tweezers at the speed of light.

I am really enjoying this build, I will certainly try more armour after this one. Here are a few more photos with every thing now primed and a dry fit to see how it will look. I have added as many bits as my fat fingers will allow. I have probably been looking at too many photos and put on bits off various marks, the photo's show up various misalignments but I'll put that down to combat damage. Just the painting to do now.
