Saxon's Fokker D 21 1/72

Post by Saxon »

Planning on building OOB in Finnish markings. Which is also on skis, trying to figure out if this subject would have also had the winter camo treatment, the box art is without it, but given the skis it certainly makes sense?

Had a look at the kit today, as typical with PM kits simple but most likely good fit and will be an easy build. Here is the sprue shot and decals.

That should look good in Finnish markings.

Well, that is interesting. Just rummaged through my Finnish AF and D.XXI references; even used google - it appears they didn't use winter camo on the D.XXI. Lots of pics of D.XXIs. Lots of pics of D.XXIs with skis. Not a single winter camo'd one. Of course, they migh thav ebeen camera-shy.

Huh, learn something every day.

MightyMike - Yep same on mine, dreadful gap between the wing roots and fuselage. But filled in ok, a rough kit, and even the plastic itself differs from some of their other kits.

Paul Bradley - I didn't find any with winter camo either so will do as per box art.

Kit built, awaiting paint and attachment of smaller parts.

Given the number of pine trees I saw in Finland, I suspect they just hid them under the trees and didn't need winter camo

Doing well, paint on, have to reapply some smaller parts that came off with the blue tack masking. Will be done in no time

Oh, the flash has made it look like there is some grey in the camo, it's two tone green over grey.

Saxon, shouldn't the finnish D-21s be painted in Black and Green?

David.
The instructions say black as do alot of instructions for Finnish camo as well as the Swedish Viggen in the fields and meadows scheme, but if you look at the box art as well as other references it is more a RLM Black green, very dark but not quite black. Black just always looks too dark too me, but I could be wrong.

While looking for references I also answered my winter camo question and found a better kit
