Re: Barry Spit on floats
Barry, neat work on the fuselage extension, I've got a PM VB myself a kit so this is interesting to follow.
Here is a copy of pics from the book on building the Airfix 1/24th Spitfire from 1971...
I think I remember reading, the VB had the drum magazine on the canon, and for the C wing they figured out how to belt feed the canons.
They don't mention any colour info in the book for the float plane.
Cheers
Jim

Re: Barry Spit on floats
There's a nice little article about these a/c in the book Spitfire in Combat by Alfred Price. There's no colour info, but I would suggest that W3760 was painted in standard combat colours once she'd been shipped to Alexandria, as she was to be used in combat along with her two later sister ships. What she carried in GB is open to question, but Yellow undersides is likely.

Re: Barry Spit on floats
Yep it definitly looks like a bulge under the wing. I stand corrected but in my defence I have seen pics of a Spitfire Floatplane without the bulges. Also in the group of pictures with the open cannon bay the bottom of the bay looks flat and not with a depression as you may expect with a lower bulge. The mystery thickens.
If I remember I will get some pictures taken of the prototype models of the Spit floatplane I did for work when I am next back in and if I can borrow them.
All the best.

OK, I'm convinced. Thanks gang...what a great pool of knowledge we have access to: us!!
Greg, possibly what you saw were pics of the mk IXc's on floats. From what Jagewa says, the C-wing had belt fed cannons so, no lower bulge for an ammo drum.

Hi Barry.
This may be of interest to you. http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=5839; It's a little modelling project I did at work for a new product.
All the best.

Neat - what do you use for masking the pattern?

That's looking good. It's becoming harder to tell its a PM kit.

This kit is not exactly one of their best but you are doing a great job on your build of it.

Yes, I've just done the easy part. Wrapping around the fuselage is much more fiddly.

Re: Barry Spit on floats
Getting close now. The red on PM's decals was very bright, so the wing roundel and tail flash came from Special Hobby's Lodestar and the fuselage roundel is from an Airfix Mosquito sheet. I was really worried about the 'P' because it was so light as to be nearly invisible on the sheet, but there it is.
This is the tinlet of Trainer Yellow that I bought. The paint in the center shows what is actually in there. More what I would call 'Lemon Yellow', and it is so thin that it could almost be sprayed right out of the pot. It'll sure be nice when Hornby starts selling "Made in the UK" paint again. I used Model Master's 'Chrome Yellow' instead. Not an exact match, but close enough for this time.
