Post by TimJ »

I'll be building another addition to my Luft '46 collection in the shape of Me P-1111.

As per usual here are the preliminary pics.

The kit only has around 20 pieces so it should be a quick build. I'll probably be fitting something in the intakes as due to their shape you'll be able to see through from one side to the other otherwise.

That is a lovely little kit Tim that should fall together leaving you plenty of time to play with colour schemes.

Looking forward to seeing this one done.

Somewhat late out of the blocks but I made a start on it yesterday. After considering various ways of blanking off the intakes I finally decided to go with the good old plastic strip.

Image

The intakes were painted matt black and the cockpit dark grey. Then it was time to close her up.

Image

Since I took the photos I've added the fin and applied some filler to what gaps there were.

This is a stunning looking aircraft & this kit is cheap enough to by a squadron of them.

Any idea what colour scheme you are going for?

The fin needed some filler around the base but apart from that everything's gone together well. After some sanding I gave it a couple of coats of primer and sprayed the underside Sky as it was easier than brush painting RLM84.

Image

Then I decided to paint the top surfaces of the fuselage anf tail RLM84. By now it was dark so I had to open the Aeromaster RLM84 and brush paint it. It was quite a bit different to the Sky I had used on the underside so I ended up painting the underside of the fuselage too. I left the wings as I thought that if they were made at a different location to the fuselage there may have been differences in the paint supplies.

Image

The upper surfaces of the wings will be RLM81/82 with a mottle of the same over the upper fuselage and tail.

Image

An enjoyable build so far and with just the undercarriage to go I'd say this would be a good choice for a Blitzbau.

The camouflage on the wings needed a couple of coats but I got the paintwork finished yesterday.

Image

Today it had a few coats of Klear and I applied the decals.

Image

Not much left to do now so it should be finished in the next day or two.

Just curious as to how you did the mottling? It looks really good.

Thanks for the comments chaps. The mottling was done by dabbing it with an almost dry brush. It wasn't even my 'mottling' brush, just an ordinary one as I was feeling a bit lazy.

I had some numbers left over from another build so put them on to add a little colour. After a coat of matt varnish I added the undercarriage and the latest addition to my 'Luftwhiffe' is finished.
