This is a continuation of the initial Airfix 1/72 Bf-109E (new tool) SKGB -- an SB promoted to GB thread from GB Chat ....

Please note this is a UAMF SKGB for the new-tool Airfix 1/72 Bf-190E kit and as a promoted "Shared Build" may have some special rules added.

Your GB Leader, AndrewR, will provide all the details .... and much of the comedy :)

I'm in: quick question
Is the Kit the BF109 E-3 (that comes in the starter set A55106) or the E-4 (A01008)? Or does it not matter.. Scalemates say that the Starter set is a rebox anyway?
Either way, I'm in

Either kit will do Mike. I could be wrong here, but I think the sprues are identical. The pilot's head armour is the bit that's included in the A01008 kit but is not used for Von Werra's plane. It's probably used in the starter kit.

One thing to make clear is that I am not an expert on the Bf-109, and so I will mostly be concentrating on how well the kit builds rather than nit picking on inaccuracies. :)

As this is a grown up version of the shared build, I'd like everyone to start building by January 4th (local time!).

I'll be doing mine as a Royal Yugoslav Air Force example. When Yugoslavia was invaded, air battles over Belgrade featured 109Es on both sides.

Cheers

Sounds like a good idea. I've just picked up the new Bf 109E Tropical, so that's the one I'll go for.
So many models, so little time.

Great, it'll be nice to see what extras you get in the other new boxing :)

Hayull yes let's sign up and chat. Went to the LMS this morning to treat myself to a belated Xmas pressie and came back with A01008, Von Werra's machine. I've been wanting to try out one of these new Airfix models for quite a while so this GB seems to be as good an opportunity as any. May I count myself in O Great One?

Ha! well they usually do get finished Mike, just not in the given time frame. I will use my best endevours to build this one OOB after the pain and anguish that I've caused and continue to cause, myself with the Apache. Then again I might add a gunsight though, drill out the exhausts, deflect the rudder and elevators....... :ha:

I think this will be a fun SKGB though.

I think so too. I started building one of these in Ireland (sadly had to leave any part-completed kits behind when I moved) and, having the New Tool 1/48 for comparison, it's simply a scaled-down version. Lots of nice detail and options like open engine/cockpit.
Obviously a Trainee-JMN like yourself will have fun deepening the treads on the tyres and ensuring that depressions worn into the seat exactly match the dimensions of Von Werra's backside.. :ha:

Seriously, can't wait for this one to start. Came across a great tutorial for the 1/48 Emil on another site that can be easily applied to the 1/72. My trek to Hannants (and the RAF museum) next week will yield me a nice set of Romanian decals too..

You certainly may, O Former Glorious Leader :-D

At least with this kit (unlike a certain Italeri one we both built recently, and which will not be named :ha: ), we shouldn't have to rebuild anything.

I'm going to build out of the box, put on the AM decals, and call it "Reasonably Accurate" :ha:

Nice to have you aboard Shaun. The flight crew are starting to warm up the on-board jokes even as I write this. :)

Cheers

Andrew

PS in Canada "Great One" is reserved for one Wayne Gretsky, who was a hockey player. You know, like Pele was a footballer.

Thanks Andrew. This indeed looks to be a nice little kit and I will do my best to build it as Airfix intended. I want a nice easy build after the-kit-that-shall-not-be-named experience :ha:

And like "Einstein was pretty smart"

Although we should limit worship of 99 to his playing days.. as a coach (hello Yotes!) he makes John Scott look like Marty St Louis...
