Sorry youse guys (casual use of U.S. English there, I hope you're impressed) but you're going to have to help out the Limey here. What on earth is the Orange Bowl, if not a bowl for putting oranges in? , Noles?, Seminoles?, feeding spears? aarrgh, it's enough to make a chap's head spin

Orange Bowl is the US College Football Final
College = University, and these guys are semi-professionals, they have to enroll in a course or two, but they are basically there to play football, US rules of course.

Our University has a course in Geology for these sporting types, known as "Rocks for Jocks"

The Seminoles are a tribe of Native Americans from Florida. This year Florida State massacred Northern Illinois, 31-10, so Dirk's daughters will be pleased.

I've been on this side of the pond for too long. :smilie_flagge3: I knowthis stuff now.

cheers

State of play as of right now.

I chose the RLM02 interior school of thought.

From what I have read, Von Werra escaped from a camp on the far north side of Lake Superior. Made his way to New York City and played tourist. Finally took passage to South America. Apparently the Ranger or the Devils didn't want him in the draft.

Looks good Jeff, you made rapid progress on this one! How is the fit on the wings and horizontal stabilizers?

Cheers

nice work so far Jeff. I'm really impressed with your IP. My decals were way to big and looked stupid so i took them off. After looking at yours I might have to try again.

Good morning. Just a clarification on the progress so far. The instrument panel decal is clear. I opted for the old school RLM02 interior. The decal was placed using Future and allowed to cure overnight. Then the overlapping decal film was trimmed with a fresh blade. Yes it is oversized but the repair is pretty easy. The integrity of the instrument faces stay intact.

Also, and this seems to be the case with the new tool Airfix kits, the cockpit is a smidgeon to wide for the fuselage halves. Dry fit, file, dry fit, file until you get a good match. I did and still ended up with a small gap just behind the canopy. This was due to the fact that I did not reduce the size of the rear bulkhead to match.

I will agree with Dirk that is is a fantastic model and very Blitzable. So think about February.

Thinking about Von Werra "doing the scene" in New York made me think of other ramifications. The U.S. being neutral during that time and yet J Edgar being on the hunt for situations such as this, I am sure Franz laid pretty low until passage to South America was arranged. Fascinating story.

Great work Jeff, that looks to be at quite an advanced stage already.

I spent a few days "doing the scene" in New York myself a few years ago and very good fun it was too - once we got used to the need to regularly pay tips (one barman refused to serve me further until I coughed up a gratuity, though we did have a laugh about it later and he bought me a beer), as generally it's not the norm here in the UK.

I would disagree with that, Jeff. I found that without the tub in place there was too much dihedral on the wings. Once the tub was in place it forced the wings down somewhat, giving a much more satisfactory angle.

Cheers, Ian. I noticed that also. But most of the work involves the gap on the fuselage top and not the bottom. When I placed the wing unit on I needed to pull down on the wing tips in order to get a good tight fit at the wing root. It worked. No filler needed anywhere and the dihedral lower a bit in the process. Again the overall fit si exceptionally tight. Lovely build.

No pictures right now but the cowling has been added. Horizontal Stabilizer struts cleaned up now that the glue is set. Underwing coolers attached and seams cleaned up. Cleaning up prop and spinner. Sorting out paints now.
