TITS!...the blue and winged kind!
After doing the metal winged things and experiencing the pain of trying to keep paint and glue off my heinkel he 111 canopy I thought I would turn to something a bit more feathery and different.
I didn't realise that they existed until I watched Jame's may's toy box!

Good luck with those. I think the painting would defeat me!

I've never been brave enough to try these! Looking forward to seeing your progress!
Best wishes

I've got a boxing of these. I have assembled both the birds and the bits of branch; given them all a liberal coating of filler, dealt with that and primed them both with a white coat. That is as far as I got before putting them back in the box to await another day.

Re: TITS!...the blue and winged kind!
So far things have gone pretty....tit's up (these puns are not going to stop any time soon )
There is going be be a massive job trying to fill all the gaps...some of the 3 bits of bird don't want to gel together very easily (see below)
However apart from that it's a pretty quick and simple build...although I'm sure I will say different when I take a brush to it!
I'm painting for the first time with acrylic, I'm guessing it's not too different to enamel, Just mix with water to thin...right?

I'm no great fan of acrylics, but even those who are (and there are many) will probably agree that they handle differently from enamels. I really recommend some experimentation with the new paints first; this is not going to be an easy project to paint even when working with very familiar paints.Cherrytree270 wrote:I'm painting for the first time with acrylic, I'm guessing it's not too different to enamel, Just mix with water to thin...right?

These comments are really making me chuckle
I will be doing a lot of messing about with the acrylic before I start and more than likely watch countless tutorials
But I am prepared for the painting to be a pain in the neck

Once you get to the painting stage, do the main colours then a wash of a darker shade of the same colours to get into the etching. Once that's dry & to your satisfaction use a white soft chalk pastel (not chalk, that will scratch acrylic paint off! ) or pastel pencil lightly over the raised detail to pick it out, gently brushing off the excess with a clean dry brush.

That's fantastic advice, I will be sure to follow that! Should I think the acrylic a lot with water or paint it on thick or...semi thick?Purplethistle wrote:Once you get to the painting stage, do the main colours then a wash of a darker shade of the same colours to get into the etching. I just used enough water to make it brush smoothly. Being feathers and natural rather than manufactured and uniform, some slight variation of paint shade will usually enhance the natural look as long as the lighter bits are where daylight would be highlighting them anyway.

Re: TITS!...the blue and winged kind!
Oh man, these will be a challenging pair to paint CT and personally I only use acrylics in the airbrush and really dislike brush painting with them, preferring enamels for the bit of brush painting that I do undertake. Hopefully you will fare better. Love the title, gave me a bit of a laugh that did!

It will be interesting to see how you tackle them
