Airfix ready made figures

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be. I bought me a few "red" boxes of these for old times sake (and for a cunning plan that may or may not ever be put into effect), and was severely disappointed. They are no longer made of properly nasty squishy plastic, but of much harder stiff that seems to hold details much better (or they slightly updated the moulds - sacrilege..) and can actually be worked and cemented. Hardly what I bargained for...

Hang on...

Let me think about that...

So, they're now dirt cheap, generally rather nicely sculpted figures, which can be reworked to clear out the single piece moulding artifacts, or serve as bases for conversion. This calls for an expensive shopping trip

The 1/32 figures have been moulded in K-Resin for a few years now.

K-resin was something I had to look up; learn something new everday, right ;-)
Just out of curiosity, and since you obviously have some knowledge of these things, what other materials are in use by the various manufacturers? I'm well aware that "plastic", and even "polystyrene" are gross simplifications, but that's as far as my knowledge goes..

Dale Luckhurst told me about K-resin when he was at Hornby. I used to work in a factory that made toys and had injection moulding machines, but I can't remember the technicalities because that was over 30 years ago, and I no longer have contacts in the industry.
