Some cool ads there that would look good on the table. Postage gets a bit much to the US though....

Re: Telford 2013
Forgot my first and only airliner kit was the DC-9 that I made in Hugh Heffner's Big Bunny markings based on some pictures I found in a, ahem, magazine.
Filled in the appropriate windows, cobbled together the serial # from some White rub on letters/numbers and drew the tail markings on some masking tape, cut out and painted over. It is in the junkyard right now as I have lost a few of the wheels but might be able to make it gear up if I had one of the bigger stands and could find where to drill out the underside whole.

Re: Telford 2013
And the lightbulb goes on in my head , I can still remember some of my first kits pretty well and I think some of them are classed as CBK's, Do any of these count?
Airfix 1/48 Harrier GR3
Airfix 1/72 Fighting Falcon A/B
Airfix 1/600 HMS Warspite
Airfix 1/600 HMS Hood
Airfix 1/600 HMS Nelson
Airfix 1/72 HP Hampden
I was a rather airfix-centric lad as my Dad always told me they were the only kits worth getting
Regards
Tom

Tom - all of those are old enough to be counted, so take your pick.
Phil - not sure we can use that magazine as a reference on the table.....

I'm not sure why you'd fill in the windows, cannot we see what is going on inside ?

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

Wow, know it was an American magazine but, still, think the group would be more openPaulBradley wrote:Phil - not sure we can use that magazine as a reference on the table.....
Actually, pretty sure it was a story in the old Scale Modeler. A guy converted the old Aurora kit in 72nd by combining 2 fuselages.
The other magazine had some nice shots of the interior, sans bunnies. Pretty sure I don't have that issue anymore but may have kept the pages with the pics (of the plane).

Re: Telford 2013
My First Theme - back when was 12 or so, I got the Salamander book called The Encyclopedia of Air Warfare. This had lots of colour profiles and was probably my first exposure to this type of artwork. I particulalry enjoyed the features on certain air forces and the one for the Israeli Air Force inspired me to start my first themed collection - previously, I'd built whatever came to hand and in arkings fromt he box. Mostly Airfix kits, this new collection included such types as the Mirage III, Skyhawk and the Phantom. I acquired more books and soon the collection expanded to include types such as the Spitfire, Mosquito and Beaufighter. Decals were often from the kits themselves but I had to supplement by painting my own!
Later, I also had a collection of Finnish Air Force aircraft, also mostly Airfix and Matchbox - these being all that was readily available then. Themes are now a given in my take on the hobby, but that one book sparked it all for me.
