CBK 2013 Display Poll

Post by JamesPerrin »

As many of you who have read the ideas discussion thread it hasn't been and easy year to come up with a consensus of what we should do. However there are some really good concepts ranging from the simple and straight forward to more involved suggestions that will require collaboration and commitment but would produce something 'a bit different'. I've listed all the main suggestions that sparked interest, in roughly in the order they were suggested, forgive for reducing the ideas to 'tag line' but to be honest that's what a good idea should be. If I have missed an idea out let me know.

Before you vote please review my guidelines and the discussion threads.

In the event of not having a clear winner there will be run off between the two most popular.

Please vote not only for the concept that you think is the best and will make the most interesting display, but most importantly the one you would most like to contribute to. You can vote for your two favourites. Please indicate a 1st adn 2nd preference below.

Which ever idea wins I hope as many of you as possible will find the time to contribute. This is the opportunity to try something new, whether is it subject matter, technique or making a macramé display base. Rarely have I built something that I would have normally and every time it has been a fun and rewarding experience.

Those marked with a * will be presented using JohnR's idea of magazine ads, article, books, box art etc

"Everything but aeroplanes" got my vote. I think this category could also make use of adverts, magazines and catalogues etc. No second preference I'm afraid because I don't have one from the list given.

Cheers

First choice has to be My First CBKs, and second choice would be CBK versus State of the art. The first would possibly allow people to add inspirational adverts, catalogue and magazine material and the second easily communicates what we represent on this forum.

James,

Thanks for taking the time to distil the collective thoughts down into some easy to understand categories.

My votes: "Basic, better, best" because it fits in with my modelling tastes, and "My first CBKs" because - hey - where would we be in modelling CBKs without nostalgia.

I have deliberately not gone with the "1963" suggestions, although I was tempted, because I feel on balance a lot of SIGs / groups will have something similar in mind.

regards,

Martin

My two cents:
-- "My first CBK's" -- human interest, good opportunity for variety (non-aeroplane) ...
-- "Only game" -- allows us to get into a lot of things, much like "Everything but...", not all aeroplanes

FWIW, as for the others:
-- 1963 Show: excludes Matchbox & 20-some years of CBK's ...
-- B,B,B: afraid it will be mostly aeroplanes
-- Cottage: limited interest ...
-- Vehicles: I just don't know what this would encompass/allow ...
-- Everything but: My tied for 2nd choice, however it could exclude the aero-centric guys ...

Not easy choices, you're a devil, James

I went with my first CBKs as number 1 as I have one to build and one to repair.

I really like Everything but Aeroplanes as I think it would be a novel display to have the CBK table be airplane free. Definitely different.
However, since aircraft make up the majority of the builds on here, might be hard to get the buy in.

I don't see why Phil, many of us have gone off piste before. It may prove to be Airfixcentric but I reckon it could be done easily (which is why I voted for it), for example:

Dr Who figure/Tardis etc.,
Dinosaurs,
Birds,
1/12th figures (The Black Prince, Bengal Lancer etc.),
54mm figures (John’s 95th Riflemen),
Sailing Ships (Cutty Sark, HMS Victory, Golden Hind),
Modern grey ships and Submarines, (FROG dinghy, trawler, tug boat),
Hovercraft,
Cars – vintage and modern by Airfix and Matchbox (and Merit -Inpact?),
Motorbikes (Airfix and Matchbox – Norton Commando, Vincent Black Shadow, Barry Sheene, Harley Electra-Glide),
the FROG Airship (or a Maquette re-pop),
Airfix/Kitmaster/Dapol railway locos, wagons, station building and accessories, houses etc.,
Airfix James Bond themed stuff,
Space rockets (Saturns and Vostoks) and lunar landers,
and of course military vehicle/AFVs etc. to name but a few.

We should be able to get 100-120 out of that – some will already be built from previous displays. Just food for thought.

Cheers
Al.

Al,
Great argument, I fully agree, wish I had voted the other way :frown:
All set to do this next year, however :)
