Well I managed not to mess up the mottle too badly and the decals are now on.

Needs a wash and mattcote, tail wheel, aerial pole & wire and spinner adding. Nearly done!

Still need that Panzer though......

The -109 is complete!

I am very happy with it, especially the mottling - the best I have achieved!

The infantry have all had their bases covered with sand and painted.

They just need matt-coting now.

So I am now here with it all (pretend the Saracen is a PzKpfw IV) -

All good, I think!

Nice work on the 109 it just shows you don't always need an air brush, the bases on the figures look good to.

Thanks Splash. The bases are quite simple to do. Just put some PVA onto the base and dip in sand ( in this scale it needs to be quite fine sand). Once dry I gave it a coat of dark brown, then drybrushed with a tan colour and then again with magnolia. It actually is magnolia as I use emulsion paints. I have a tin of the 1.5 L tin of the brown and 2 testor pots of the tan. The magnolia was left over from some decorating. It's a cheap way of achieving a uniform set of bases - I use the same for my Warhammer models, as well as the scenery I have made for the game. This rock formation was painted using the same paints. (Ignore the bases on the figures, they have since been repainted.)
Image
(If anyone is interested, this rock formation was carved out of a single piece of blue insulation foam and glued to a piece of left over wooden flooring.)

As for Stalingrad, I am at a standstill till I get the Panzer IV. Pay day Friday! Once it's built and in place, I can superglue the infantry in place and mattcote them.

Diorama looks good. I'm loving that rock formation though, that is seriously good.

Thanks Nigel. I appreciate that.

A little progress. I bought the Pz IV today!

Does anyone have any tips on tyre painting? From searching google it appears that the whole of the outer section of the wheels should be tyre with a small rim. Is it worth not bothering with the rim and just having it all tyre and trying to hide the rim with weathering?

No? OK.

A weekend of nights in the office had me mostly painting wheels. Lots and lots of wheels!

So it now stands like this.

Just going to leave them for a day or two to make sure they don't bend when I add the tracks.

heres how i do tank wheels,

make your wheels, paint the wheel.
grab a cocktail stick and cut the point of one end or untill you can place the wheel on the end without it falling off.
now have your black or grey paint not too thin but not straight from the pot either.
slowly rotate your wheel on the cocktail stick and keep your brush still, a bit of practice and you'll fly through all the wheels.

like the dio by the way.

Believe it or not, the tyres are painted. Revell Anthracite is very close to Humbrol 79, so it just looks like they aren't!

Thanks Tom. I'm proud of it so far. Just hope the Panzer come out like I want. Then, of course, there's the dangers involved in transport!
