Splash's first builds ***finished***

Work has now started on my Scammell Scarab, its a nice kit that comes with a choice of two options, a British Rail version in cream and maroon with an empty trailer or Watneys breweries option with a red barrel on top of the cab and three large barrels on the trailer.

The kit is one of Airfix's very early kits origanally released in the 50's, now re-Issued by Dapol. There is some flash but no more than you would expect for the kits age and the part fits not bad.

I can't remember what colour my first kit was, I suspect it didn't get painted and was just left unpainted.

The question is what way to go British Rail or Watneys Red Barrel?

Looks good. I'd go down the beer route.

I'd go the British Rail route - a classic scheme.

What about British Rail carrying the beer barrels? Best of both.

Looks a nice little model and an interesting subject. It will make a lovely addition to the display. We just bed a few more now!

James I have two other kits I intend to build for certain, they will be the Bristol Superfreighter (sorry no pictures until its finished, but it is on the work bench) and the little Airfix Auster as it was the first a/c I flew in that triggered my love of a/c and my flying career in the Fleet Air Arm.

Having done some research I see Airfix had missed the centre windscreen strut so I have added a windscreen and the strut.

This is a fiddaly little kit, but bags of fun.

So glad you didn't!

Yes, it's very nice Alan. It looks good in the old BR colours.

Cheers

My memory could be playing tricks 40 + years on, but I'm fairly sure the kit used to have a central windscreen pillar. I wonder if the moulds have been repaired?

That's looking good. Looks very smart in those colours.
