My 1st CBKS: Just 5 weeks to go to Telford!

Hi fellow CBKers,

How are you all doing? I know I've been relatively quiet the last few months and I apologise but family and home has taken up a lot of my time, even when I two weeks leave at home I didn't get more than an hour or two of modelling in.

It's good to see that several people have been cracking on with their builds for Telford and a couple of you have even finished; JohnR's have even arrived from the US. It's a shame though that though 16 people voted for "My First CBKs" we only have about 9 members contributing and some of them voted for the other suggestions.

With 5 week between now and the show there is time though for people to step forward and take part in the display. This is the ultimate GB as your models will be seen by the thousands of visitors at Telford (and the 100s at the other shows we attend) and there is even a chance they could appear in a modelling magazine ;-)

Everyone please remember I also need a paragraph describing your memory of when you first built the kit. Any supporting materials that form part of the memories will add to the display, such as books, comics, adverts. Maybe we should leave a pot of Humbrol enamel open and waft the fumes across the table

I've got some ideas for artwork and will try to put them together soon!

James, from your original post here: http://www.uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=230&t=6563;, do we still have to stick to this;

"Obviously you can only have 1 kit in each category, some may be your "earliest CBKs" anyway e.g. my first ever kit was a tank. There is no requirement to fill every category."?

I may be able to provide more aircraft just in case there is some room on the table, which by the underwhelming response to this years theme looks like it may be the case. Usual thing really - I can bring them and if not required then can stay in the car, but better to have too many than too few.

Cheers
Al.

Yeah sure bring them, but I'll still want a quote about your memories of building them first time around.

I still need to get my Stalingrad dio to someone who's attending.
Anyone live close(ish) to Peterborough or Welwyn Garden City or somewhere in between the two?

It might be worth considering posting it Ian, even if it is just to the nearest person who is coming the to show. Using foam packing chips might be the best way of protecting the base.

James, I don't know if you or a previous CBK SIG leader has this model of mine:

Image

He was part of the catalogue cover display we did way back when, and is still in Britain somewhere. He can be used for the display, in lieu of anything else from me - I wasn't at all inspired by the few "firsts" I could remember! This one, however, is the same kit as my first figure model, and so qualifies. Provided he can be found, of course...!

Beautifully built figure there Paul. I don't have him among all the members builds I have in my loft I'm afraid.

Cheers
Al.

James,

I will try to get my contributions boxed and sent out to you this week. Just trying to work out how I'm going to pack 'em. Anyway, I've chosen:

Matchbox Spit Mk IX to represent my first Matchbox,

Airfix Beaufighter NFI to represent my first Airfix.

Both are representative as I have no idea which were my first kits from those manufacturers; as far as I can remember, I have always been building! Anyway, paragraphs describing my memories will follow.

regards,

Martin

The expedition is planned for this afternoon. We have already established a base camp on the landing and there is a big pile of stuff (clothes, mobile, pram) that I need to take to the summit with me.
