Sally B ***Now landed***.

Post by Gregers »

I have the Academy B17G and the decal sheet for the preserved example based at Duxford here in the UK called 'Sally B' The sheet is for the old all silver scheme she wore many moons ago. This is one I have been going to do for many years and never got round to getting done. Sprue shot to follow.

All the best.

Very much looking forward to seeing that Greg. The 'Sally B' is certainly one I'd like to tackle one of these days. Need to get the decals first. And the kit. But apart from that I have everything required

I'll be taking some box and sprue shots and posting them up shortly. From building the Academy kit before I know one job that is pretty important with this kit. There is way too much dihedral on the wings. I put a plastic card shim above the wing locating peg and filled the resulting gap.

All the best.

Well. Now I have managed to get onto the computer I will get some pics uploaded. They are being imported to the computer as I type. I have started in the usual way by painting the interior and the only modelling task so far has been cutting the side gunners window area out of the starboard side. I had to have a look through pictures of the real Sally B to determine which aperture to cut out. Pics will be on here some time soon.

All the best.

Academy seems to be the kit of choice for most of your group Greg. Sally B will make a good subject.

Not for nothing Academy leads the way (IMHO) with their Forts that is until last year when Revell released their G model. I've got one of those as well and its the cats .... ;-)

I was going to get the Revell B17G for this build but they had sold out at the wholesalers (I'm too tight fisted to pay full retail - and working in the trade has it's perks) and I had the Academy one in the stash. I was going to do a QB17 drone with this particular kit but I'll save that project for another day.
More building and pics very soon

A QB17 sounds like a great project, Greg. Make it happen!
