Dirk,

It's a nice honest kit; not uber-detailed, but just enough for me (with the exception of the radio op's compartment). If you want to see a bomb load, then this kit isn't for you, though. Fit appears good (except where I've stressed the joints with various inserts). There's a bit of flash on the sprues but nothing that can't be sorted easily. If you can get it at a good price, my view is you won't regret it.

Here's where we're at. Tail feathers primed in Xtracrylix RLM23 - for a Tamiya yellow top coat. We'll see how that works out!

Due to the chances of the tail ending up a dayglo orange colour, I thought I'd better test it on a piece of scrap styrene sheet. Yep, looks very orange. I'll mist a coat of white primer on top of the red tomorrow to get the final result hopefully a bit lighter.

Despite everything, I'm aiming to have at least one shade of Aluminium sprayed by the end of the weekend!

Keep pressing on Martin, she's coming together well. Jeez, I hate masking!

Starting to look very fine. Nice one. (Yellow over a white base is best ;-) )

All the best.

Thanks, Greg.

Hmmm! Not sure I agree with your advice above. I had previously heard that pink was good as a base coat for a rich yellow effect. As I had none, I used the RLM23 which, as experiment showed, gave too orangey a result. But I did want a nice rich orangey-yellow colour. So, I blew a dust coat of white primer over the RLM23 to get a lighter pink colour, then sprayed a couple of coats of Tamiya TS-16 yellow over the top, et voila:

The contrast with the pale yellow on the white based fuselage and control surfaces is marked.

Now to put on a couple of coats of OD on the rudder and elevators, and then mask off the tail feathers this evening.

Looking good Martin but I bet you're miffed with yourself over those wingtips!

I agree with Greg, white does give a good base for yellow and I've used that tip a few times myself. I've never heard of using pink though.

Hi Martin. That's looking great. The white base coat tip is one I have always used and it comes from my days training as an Automotive painter, Then afterwards painting blimming big bits of oil rig.

All the best.

Yep, but I bet all you rufty-tufty automotive and oil rig painters would be "philosophically indisposed" to painting big bits of cool metal a pretty pink colour  However, as a softy office worker, I have no such inhibitions.

LOL. One of the high temp paints we used in the oil industry was in fact quite close in shade to Salmon pink.

All the best.

OK, the yellow is finished. I have masked around the elevators and rudder and given them a first coat of olive drab. They'll need a few more. Having failed dismally to get any Ali on over the weekend, this is now my aim for COP on the 28th!

Olive drab elevators and rudder now painted. I'll try to get that masked off tomorrow night and, if possible, blow some Ali over it. Photos then, hopefully (I'm decorating the hall at the moment, so not much free time for modelling).
