This is the ventral gun position,There should be a hole here, so I made one

Image

I put a floor in the waist gun position and, since it looked like some interior would be visible through the blister, I made these (2). They represent the low bench-like structure right under the waist guns. The gunner could stand on, or rest one foot on it when working the guns. They also served as storage space for some of the extra ammunition canisters.

Image

Here, I've made this little piece (with the four holes) to cap off the compartment floor. I think the Hasegawa kit includes this as part of the floor, but you still have to drill out the holes.

Image

The cockpit cover fit pretty good except at the center post and outer edges of the windshield. The gap was big enough to require little shims. Super Glue will finish it off.

Image

On the B-17C, the commanders viewing blister is mounted on the center line, but on the B models, it was offset to the right. Academy missed this.

Image

These blisters fit the fuselage curvature very nicely. Good job Academy!.

Image

The locating pins will be mostly hidden by the painted framework.

Image

Pretty clean on the bottom compared with all that busyness topsides.

Another good looking Academy Fort and this will make a nice comparison to the late model B-17s being built in the GB. Great work so far Barry.

That's looking damn fine, nice work on the extra details. I'll have to get me one of the early forts. They're great looking aircraft.

All the best.

Work has slowed a bit. I had this depressed fracture in the wing and decided that the best way to handle it wa to cut out a section along existing panel lines and...

insert a new piece.

There is this sort of displacement to deal with on both sides of all the nacelles. I'm using a combination of light sanding and superglue, hoping not to get it noticably 'flat sided'.

The surgeon certainly is in, have to start addressing him 'Mr Barry'.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I always learn some new technique from your builds Barry, top stuff.

Thanks...didn't quite do the job I'm afraid...still having to use filler to finish it off. It was well worth putting in the 'patch' though.

There's always something of interest in your builds Barry and I agree with the others, that certainly is a great looking piece of plastic surgery there.
