Re: Barry's B-17B
Continuing..I tried to seal the filler with Klear but it didn't work. Too thin
So It was on the Gunze Mr. Surfacer 500, followed by Mr. Surfacer 1000.
Academy's excessive wing dihedral problem persists. Nice fit on the bottom but...
Setting the correct angle (4.5 degrees) left these gaps on top

Looking good.
I think a person could make some money with some aftermarket wing shims for the Academy kits. They all have this issue.
I have a couple of them and the new Revell G kit in the stash. Too much going on to participate in this GB.

Re: Barry's B-17B
Not a lot Greg...I was blindsided by muscle spasms in my lower back and spent three days horizontal taking pain meds and muscle relaxants. Even after that, I couldn't really do any modeling because I couldn't sit and lean over the table. Much better now, but still some residual discomfort. I spent the better part of four hours today masking up the transparencies and still have fourteen little windows and the landing lights to do tomorrow.

OUCH, I can empathise with you mate. I fractured my spine nearly 30 years ago and it still gives me trouble. Great progress though on the model and your recovery. Nice one.

Re: Barry's B-17B
Modified the gear strut. Left: as provided, Right: as modefied
Final coat of black on the wings, will mask off wings and do fuselage on Tuesday. There is some fine 'orange peel' to the surface and I just hope it won't look too bad after the silver is on. Ordinarily, I might try to polish it out, but this airplane is just too big and complex an object to even think about doing that.

Good job with the gear strut. I assume you've done the other one as well?
Can't wait to see it with the silver on.

Re: Barry's B-17B
I would warn you that your more accurate gear strut is probably not as strong .... be gentle ...

Great work Barry and I hope your back is recovered. I have suffered sciatica off and on for a number of years which, when on, severely limits the amount of time that I can model at any one go.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Barry's B-17B
Hi John, the main gear is pretty hefty with or without that strut. That said, I always treat my babies gently
I think I'll finish the air frame Saxon, but it's possible I may not be able to locate some of the number/letter decals I need for my selected airplane. All National markings will be on though.
Back's fine now Shaun..thanks.
Ready for de-icer boots, then decals.

That looks amazing! And menacing!
Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...
