Yes Shaun, Alclad Polished Aluminum for the shine, Magnesium on the front of the nacelles, and Aluminum for the fabric covered control surfaces.

Re: Barry's B-17B
Very effective it all is too Barry. It's shiny enough to use as a mirror to get shaved inBarry wrote:Yes Shaun, Alclad Polished Aluminum for the shine, Magnesium on the front of the nacelles, and Aluminum for the fabric covered control surfaces.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Barry's B-17B
It is a nice kit but it has one big problem with the decals. They are for a Y1B17 instead of a proper B-17B. Here is a picture of the one I plan on doing. but have to get codes and hand make the unit marking on the nose.
On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

Right Chuck...that's the squadron I'm doing too, but not any of the flight leaders so as to avoid that fuselage stripe.

Re: Barry's B-17B
Little screw-up here: when I masked for the de-icer boot. I didn't cover all of the tailplane and got a little blowback which left this. I don't think it was because of the tape lifting some sheen. In any case it's like this to some extent on all of the flying surfaces. I tried simply overspraying with more Alclad, didn't work...the Alclad is to translucent. I've got to respray black and do the Alclad again on the affected areas. I've done just the underside of the wings first to to be sure it's going to look ok. Anyway, this is going to take a couple of days to fix so I may not finish in time (but I will finish).

Re: Barry's B-17B
That's a shame Barry - fixable but it means more work of course. The photo does make it look to me like the masking tape has perhaps lifted the finish as everything looks very straight.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Barry's B-17B
finally..decals went on nicely. Wing insignia are too small I think, but they do reflect the correct lighter blue that was in use in the 1930's.
