Chip's Eurofighter Typhoon ***Finished***
I forgot that I had the Airfix "Then & Now" box set in the stash, comprising of a Spitfire Mk. IIa, and the Eurofighter Typhoon. As I need to get these done for the Crewe model show on 24th February, I may as well tackle the Typhoon for this GB.
The kit comprises of the main fuselage in two pieces, and three sprues of bits in grey plastic. The clear parts come in there own separate bag which is a nice idea from Airfix as it prevents scratches.
The parts are crisply molded and free from flash, as you would expect from a relatively new kit. I particularly like the detailing in the wheel bays, a shame I will be doing it in flight to make the most of the included double stand.
The build instructions appear to be well laid out, but the decal guide is going to need a lot of concentration:
The decal sheet is mind-blowing:
This will definitely be built OOB.

Re: Chip's Eurofighter Typhoon
Interested to see this one built up. Heard that it does have its problems which is why i have got the Revell kit which is waiting to be built

Oh, thanks Tom, that doesn't fill me with confidence. No wonder I cannot find much reference to other builds.Motley wrote:Heard that it does have its problems
Here is the stand that comes with the kit, quite snazzy:

Dont listen to me im sure youll turn it out fine in the end, if i remember right it just might need abit of filler but then again so do most kits

Too true Tom.Motley wrote:it just might need a bit of filler but then again so do most kits
I made a start on this as usual with building up the cockpit:
As the IP and side consoles were smooth I opted to use the decals provided.
This then fitted inside the top fuselage section, nice idea but not a particularly good fit at the back:
Out with the filler....

Re: Chip's Eurofighter Typhoon
There are quite a few fit issues with this kit, the latest one being the Engine Air-intake:
The front wheel door is a poor fit when in the closed position due to the nice detailing on it. I have therefore replaced it with a bit of scrap card:
Whilst it is all drying I have put the stand together:
I am currently painting the Airfix badge that goes on it.

I have finally got the fuselage parts together, with the help of a couple of clamps:

First released in 1990, back before we really knew what the Eurofighter would look like. Very basic in detail and ordnance, as compared to the newer and accurate Revell.Molly-new wrote:...as you would expect from a relatively new kit.

Re: Chip's Eurofighter Typhoon
Most of the joint lines have required a smidgeon of filler:
and the tail pipe area needs a bit of work before the afterburner nozzles can be fitted. I will probably blank them off with a circular piece of card.
The tailpiece has now been fitted and she has been masked up ready for a coat of primer.

Re: Chip's Eurofighter Typhoon
They have the Airfix starter kit for this aircraft at the local Hallmark store. I've been tossing around the idea of buying it. They are still running the buy one get one free deal but I'm not sure they have something of equal value to get for the second kit.

Does not look all that bad on your workbench. And you make fast work of it.

Re: Chip's Eurofighter Typhoon
I do garden maintenance for a living, so there is not a lot to be done at this time of year work wise, especially when there is 6' of snow everywhere. At least it means I can do plenty of modelling (much to SWMBO's annoyance)Marek wrote:And you make fast work of it.
Today I have managed to get a coat of primer on, and also had a go at pre-shading. Not as easy at it looks.
I am currently working on putting all the decals on the missiles.
