Re: Sissels P-39 Airacobra ** In Progress **
Thanks guys.
Put a coat of red on. It will need more coats. I hope they dry fast.
Despite what I've said I agree with all of you to say this is a bad old kit!
However I am enjoying building it. I was lucky with filling and sanding, and most parts fit okay. Nothing is perfect, and things do go wrong, but one can't complain over every obstacle. That's whining.
As usual, getting some struggles along the way, but what would a blitz be if one goes through it with no obstacles? Boring!
When red layers are done, and I have fixed the bleed (there is always bleed) I am hoping the decal session will be struggle free. There's not many of them, and that's a good thing.
Looking at the pic: reminder for self.. Find out where I put the exhausts and get them in place!

That's looking great.. have you sorted the tail-sitting problem? I build mine up on a stand so avoided that issue altogether!

Re: Sissels P-39 Airacobra ** In Progress **
Nope, wasn't fixable with canopy in place. Taking it off will just resort in a lot of mess and I wont bother (if I could get it off without breaking it is another issue).
I never have problems with tail sitters, just happened once before, about 6-8 years ago. I usually put in much more led so it's sure to stand, don't know why I didn't this time. I never build models onto stands, not my type of thing, I like them on their wheels in the glass cabinet shelf!
I'll just place it smartly in the cabinet so it wont sit back heavy, I have an idea.

Re: Sissels P-39 Airacobra ** In Progress **
After a wee bit magic, I don't know what I did really, cause I didn't do anything, it is NOT a tail sitter anymore!
Must be the second layer of red paint!!
So, 9 hours after start we are here. I'm stopping the clock now as I have no idea when I will be home tomorow (and I'm awfully tired now and need the sleep), it could be early or late. I will do this as a proper 12+12, meaning I have 12 hours left to build.
Good night folks and thanks for following. To you night hawks, try stay clear of LASD (Lancfan armchair sleep disorder).

Looking good Sissel. I'm not sure it will take any where near another 12 hours to finish this baby. Nice to see the second coat of paint had a duel purpose.

Re: Sissels P-39 Airacobra ** In Progress **
Looking good. Glad you decided to do another.
A trick for tail sitters after the fact that I have read about someplace is to drill a hole in the underside of the model where you want to add more weight. Then pour in a little super glue and add the weights (like split shot fishing weights) through the hole. Then you can plug the hole, a little putty and repaint the area. The one guy did it in the nose landing gear bay so it was even less visible.
Hopefully your extra coat of red did the trick and it will still be sitting pretty after you get up.

I can't believe it's sitting on its legs. Must be that strange Norwegian gravity you have over there.

Wow, you have made a good job of that old dog classic Airfix kit. It's great that it's not a tail sitter anymore - that red paint must certainly have some weight to it!

Phil's tip is one I've used in the past - it worked a treat.

Re: Sissels P-39 Airacobra ** In Progress **
Ok I'm home early, whew, blasted headache/migrene! Thanks for the nice comments folks.
As you see from pic, untouched since last night. Sorry about blur.
And the wheel is almost touching ground, quite the balancing act! Ugly macro by the way, need to fix that wheel paint.
I have pulled off tape and done some quick touch ups, then I'm gonna start adding the decals. I do not bother coating with Klear this time. Going to try one decal underwing first, if it's really ugly I will coat the plane with Klear and decal later tonight. I'm not going to the chess club tonight cause of the headache, ah just one of those days. Meaning I have plenty of time today.
Due to the headache I will try do this as quickly as possible, just need a lay down first.
What you Phil (or is it Philip?) suggested sounds like a good tip. Thanks.
