FREEDOM!! mmD does an F-5A, DONE, Buddy
It's Hockey Night tonight, so I'ma sit up late... going to do some work on the SCW models, but may dive into this, too..
It's the Airfix 1/72 Northrop F-5A Freedom Fighter.. which has been lurking unbuilt in the stash primarily because the only decal option is Iranian and I don' wanna.
However, checking the sparesies, I think I can do a reasonabobble approximation of a Canadian. So that's what we'll aim at (there are PM decals involved here, so it could all go horribly, horribly wrong. (Which is half the reason most of you tune in to my builds, I'm sure !)
Watch this space.

This is a pretty rough kit, good luck with it, I'll check out your blitz when I can.

There's no stopping you Mike, that's for sure. I think this kit is a bit of an old dog simple yet classic Airfix product - just the stuff for a blitz then
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Sprues
Udder Sprues
Apparently this kit may have "Issues".. we shall see. Time to get Busy Blitzin'.
Here's The Twilight Sad, one of my favourite bands of recent years. They're very Scottish and very miserable. What's not to like?

Good luck with this one Mike. If I remember right from when I built this one as a kid it wasn't too much of a nightmare but memory and moulds tend to wear over the years.

Confirmed: It's A Pig.
An hour that has seen a lot of flash-removal, sanding and dry-not-fitting has brought me to here...
The nosecone is only dry-not-fitted. Words fail me. It looks like it should be part of a different kit. Remedial work in progress.
The kit itself is worn-out-mould personified. Flash is everywhere, fit is atrocious. Oh well.
Here's that nose and my (very dirty looking) fingers.
Them's "Blitzbauer's Hands, Them Is...
I also spent a lot of time working on the UC.. here's the results.
Here's Mission Of Burma

This is one kit i do have sitting somewhere. Good to know it's not a simple OOB build.

Re: FREEDOM!! mmD does an F-5A, IN PROGRESS
If you'd asked I would have told you to get the Airfix F-5E Tiger II - a far nicer and better fitting kit. As it is I am working nights so will spend the next however many hours laughing loudly as you struggle your way through this one.
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....

That's what I'm here for, Mike.
Isn't it about time you posted an update?
I sincerely hope you have enough filler for this kit, especially as Homebase has now closed. A tube of Polyfiller would have been ideal. And some 40 grit sandpaper. Or a belt sander.

Re: FREEDOM!! mmD does an F-5A, IN PROGRESS
And here we are, a little late with the update because I was shovelling pasta into my filthy gob.
It's the Filllllller..
Fillller night....
While that dries I'm going to work on the pilot. Introductions soon.
I'm listening to jazz now. Fairly obnoxious stuff, too. I'll spare you that.
Instead, here's jazz-flautist Herbie Mann with "Claudia Pie". It's gorgeous. Bonus points if you can identify which classic song it takes it's theme from.
