Right! I've got a Blitz going on but am going to be working on this too... and, in good news, I found the missing struts!Softscience wrote:Wowsers! Suddenly the supposedly more difficult Classic Airframes kit sounds like a viable alternative!
Soldier on though Mike. After this hump it gets easy, right?

Soo.. two pieces of plasticard glued together
dry fit.. looking good
Filler into the gaps (esp on the leading edge) and sanded down.. and we have a tailplane.
Quite pleased with this!

Re: mmD's Falangist Freccia
My New Tailplane and his buddy.. coat of Hu64 drying on the underside
Fuselage and lower wings assembled.. waiting till I get the tailplanes on to put some green blotches on.. then brick-red smears all over.. and after that it's Strut-Time
Starting to look like a plane!

I've had to fill the wing roots.. they were annoying me... I'll be attaching the tailplanes shortly so photos when that's done.. feels nice to not be blitzing something!

Oh it's so nice to be making a model in a leisurely fashion without an eye on the clock!
Looks like a plane, now..
Wings and struts.. which is the next job...
Progress, progress

Cool paint work - really like this scheme. Impressive scratching going on with the tailplane!

Re: mmD's Falangist Freccia
Thanks! Aligning he struts is going to be no-fun.. there are no guide holes for the cabanes so I have to work out a way of getting them squared up first..

Re: mmD's Falangist Freccia
Yuck.
I build quite a few short-run jobs and I know what to expect but the struts on this were no fun at all..
It was a bit of a fight and there's some clean up to do, but they're on
Cabanes will be next.. now there's a strut to rest against!
UC is done, too..
Finishing line approaches for this one!

Re: mmD's Falangist Freccia
Thanks OT...
Here's the progress...
Cabanes are on
Because they rest against the struts I simply inverted the model, applied CA Gel to the contact points, carefully placed them against the struts and let them fall against the fuselage.. good old gravity!
From there it was time to check out the decals.. I've learned from bitter experience to use spares/decals that will be hidden/easily replaced to assess the quality of unknown decals.. and the first few were fine.. they need a decent soak but behave themselves. I was starting to relax and then one of the underwing roundels decided to disintegrate. Eh. It's a black circle. I can paint it on.
This, by the way, is my windscreen.
Onwards!

I don't know how you find the time to do all these models Mike, at this rate you're going to be Merlin Jones II. Cool paint job on this and a good bit of fixery with the tailplane.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: mmD's Falangist Freccia
Progress and some arghs..
First off, that little flat piece of plastic that I was to form into my windshield.. it's with the Carpet Monster now... there was a ping. To the scratchbuilding (again) batman.
The decals have also presented problems. Really fragile and prone to doing strange things. There used to be a 1 on the end of that number. Couldn't tell you what happened to it. Round the other side the roundel decided to move while drying, all of its own accord and then set rock hard. The rudder decals appear o be designed for a different, larger, aircraft. Lots of trimming needed which ain't fun when they're this flimsy.
Couple more decals to go, windshield, couple of sticky-out bits and we'll be done...
