Brickie's He-51 ** Fertig **
Actual photos to come, but while I'm stuck at work on this fine sunny day I'll offer that this is the boxing of the Hasegawa He-51 I'm using...
And this is the decal set I have to go with it...
I think I'll attempt to do Adolf Galland's aircraft (number 7), but given my previous experience of Print Scale decals being incredibly see-through and shattering as soon as they came into contact with water, I may have to cobble together whatever I can...

Re: Brickie's He-51
Another He-51! Excellent!
Galland's kite looks interesting and I'd feel happy with making "his" plane (as opposed to Revell's old scheme for Goering's Fokker).. guess it's that whole "Good German" thing.
At least if one lot of decals goes west, you've plenty to choose from.

Here's the sprues...
And an afternoon's modelling gets me this far. As you can see, I've started drilling rigging holes as well.

Re: Brickie's He-51
Now, any thoughts on the right colours for the three-tone camouflage?
The decal sheet says RLM 26 Brown, RLM 99 Green and RLM 84 v.1 Green Blue.
This page suggests that the pre-war splinter scheme was RLM's 61, 62 and 63.

Re: Brickie's He-51
Hmm.. I've seen various options for this.. the Humbrol guide for the Airfix version is
Hu98, Hu31 and Hu87 for the splinter camo.. I used Hu98, Hu31 and Hu64 if I can recall.. but Bruce got a great looking finish by replacing the Hu98 (which is a bit too brown) with Hu160.. a colour that I love immoderately anyway!

Re: Brickie's He-51
Well, I couldn't find much in the way of photo references for the camo scheme, so I made up something plausible...
Now the interesting bit - adding upper wing to lower and rigging

I was going to say a flying start but you're nearly rigging all ready!
Nice choice of scheme.

Re: Brickie's He-51
Cheers. I'm having a bit of a problem getting the wing on - something's warped or something, but I can't get all the pegs in all the holes at the same time. Managed to get all the wing struts in and the cabane struts popped off.
Will have another bash in a bit.
Meanwhile, the parcel that I ordered before Christmas from Jadar has finally arrived after being mis-addressed (My fault ) and thus making two round trips from Warsaw. It contains the ICM version of the He-51 kit, so I will try and do another one in a different scheme off the decal sheet, and a Roden He-111E which could be done in Condor Legion or could be done in Poland '39 schemes....

(Potentially) two more.. I like it! The He-111E would be a very interesting addition, to be sure..

Re: Brickie's He-51
Another wrestle with the top wing and I've snapped a cabane strut.
I think I'm going to have to clip off the wing struts and then re-set them once I've got the cabanes sorted.

Sounds like a ton of fun... I'm looking at the struts on my Freccia and anticipating trouble ahead... oh well, it's what we get our inspirations for, right?

Re: Brickie's He-51
That's an aircraft I find attractive. I like the version you're building and good job on the camo colours.
I would reccommend dry fitting struts first (if possible) then test with wings fit before you glue them in place.

Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...
