forest1000s Do 17 ***Finished***

Post by forest1000 »

After trying to find different kits to do I've settled on the Do 17 and will be completing as Pablo 4. There's a couple of marking schemes to choose from for this aircraft. I'll decide later.

Here's a single sprue shot.

Looks to be the typical older kit. I look forward to seeing it come together

They'll be my own. I'll make the decals myself. The white lettering for the Pablo 4 will be a stencil, same for the white on the rest of the markings. I have the numbers somewhere in a file that I can rescan. If you're interested in some artwork to do one, PM me.

After a pause, here's the latest. The kit is suffering from the warps. I've had to glue and hold section by section on the wing, nacelles and the fuse is next.

Using the Mk10 Hands as clamps? It's no fun at all... still, you're making progress!

It's all good. A mixture of glues got everything joined quickly. I started using liquid modelling cement and liked it. I should have the rest together in a couple of days.

You've a bit more time, Dave, as we're extending the finish date till the end of Monday.. sounds like you're really close to the finishing line anyway..

Thanks. This kit has been a real struggle. I'll post my progress shortly.

Here's the progress, so far. I've got to finish off the bits, apply the decals. Actually make the artwork for the decals, first. Put on some aerials. Do some touch ups at the wing tips and underside.

It's a slight variation on the Airfix kit scheme from 1937. Looking at photos of 27-4, it is difficult to determine what the camouflage scheme was. It would appear that the blue undersides extended on the rudders and the control surface painted with white. I can't confirm that the white wingtips were on in the photos. The angles are all wrong and the pattern appears to extend to the wingtip. There's one photo in flight that shows a triangular shape of colour in the correct position for the grey against brown on the right wing. Due to the number of flights these aircraft went on repaints/repairs are included in the paint job. One photo shows the first aid location and another doesn't, though they are the same aircraft. So, based on this, I chose the pattern you see. It's really a best guess.
