Stuart can you give us a close up picture of the resin ejection seat so I can see what I have to do with the kit version.

Just a thought do you need to fit the engine?
Can it be built separate on an engine stand?
Or is it needed to hold the kit together?

The engine could be built separate but you'd need to cobble something to hold the exhaust nozzles in place on the fuselage as they fit directly to the engine.

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

That's an interesting idea Splash,
it's not needed to hold the fuse together, but it is needed to hold the Nozzels on. Also you would a big hole at the rear of the intake duct where the compressor blades should be...
you could scratch some intake bungs though?
I'll get you a picture of the seat later.
Cheers

I'm thinking that I might paint the engine etc. after all
Even if I do fix the wing in place I could leave the access panel off.
Cheers

If it were mine Stuart, I'd fix the wing/access panels as they will probably never stay put properly if built removable, besides which I'm not really a fan of open panels as they spoil the lines of the aircraft IMHO. I would paint the compressor blades and engine front as they are visible through the intakes IIRC. I'd then concentrate on the stuff that can be seen such as the cockpit and airframe details. The resin accessories that you have sound like the way to go for more detail as in this scale the usual dodge of a few spurious black painted scrap sprue boxes a la 1/72nd probably won't cut it - 'tis one of the disadvantages of a man sized scale like 1/24.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

My wife is about to take a weeks trip to visit her Mum so I can see some serious evening and week end bench time coming up for me
I'm going for the no detail engine and close it all up and as Shaun says spend time on the bits you can see.

Yeah you guys are probably right! Having looked at some internal piccys the fuse was very full of engine, pipes, ducts and what have you - this isn't really represented in the kit (it's not bad given it's age mind)
Cheers

Whats your thoughts on the rivet detail on this kit, I know some say it's too heavy, but I quite like the way Airfix did the detail.

I like it - I think for it's age it's been nicely done and certainly not so bad I'd want to spend half my life filling it, sanding it and then rescribing!
It'll look fine under a few coats of paint!

Re: Airfix 1/24 Harriers - Sir T, FredK, Splash, MarkyM607
When I built my 1/24 scale Spitfire I found building the 1/72 version along side it helped me, especially when it came to laying down paint, so I'm going to build the new Airfix GR1 as a guide.
I'm not planning to use resin parts, so when trying to modify the intake flaps the smaller kit will make a good reference.

I've got the pilot half done!!. Still tussling with the PZL 23!, so no space on any of my benches for the Harrier. She is underway but I may lag behind you a bit!.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!
