Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
After a brief gap work has resumed, the raised line details on the wings were replaced by engraved lines, this shot shows the finished wings ready for assembly.
XA847 did not have side trunking nor did it carry armaments so all evidence of this was removed from the fuselage halves, the old Airfix kit is quite crude by modern standards so parts such as the cockpit tub, U/C doors and nosewheelbay/radome housing were copied in resin from the NT Airfix kit for this model, also the kit ejection seat has been replaced by an aftermarket PJ Productions resin seat.
Here are the cockpit parts dry fitted on the left and painted and assembled on the right.
The fuselage sides have here been fitted out and three steel nuts have been secured into the fuselage aft of the cockpit to keep the nosewheel on the ground.
The fuselage halves have been glued together, this is how the model looked at 2.30 PM today, the fuselage was then set aside to dry.

Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
Since taking the last picture I have rubbed down the seams, filled where needed, rubbed the filler smooth when it had dried and have now begun to engrave the fuselage details.

Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
I had hoped to finish my F2 before shutting down modelling for the summer but I'm out of time. I will pick it up again on my return.

The freshly engraved fuselage ready for assembly.
Here the airframe has been assembled, the fin is a surplus part from the Sword F.3 kit waiting to be built later and the sub fin has been cut down from a spare F.2 fin left over from my earlier Sword F.1 build.

Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
The spine has been blended in with the fin using Revell Plasto filler and the canopy has been fitted, the model is now ready for paint. I did consider finishing this model as XA847 appeared when new and very shiny but I will always remember her as she looked at Hendon, in perfect condition but with the patina of age and this is the finish I shall apply.

Just tidying the modelling room before continuing, have mixed the base colour and will commence work tomorrow morning by airbrushing this onto the airframe, the other tones will then be applied by brush.

Okay, fair enough. I've done some tidying myself and it's amazing what you find that you forgot you had!!.lancfan wrote: But I couldn't find owt !

I've not given up on this but GB's and personal project builds are muscling in lately. I still plan on making a two-seat VG Lightning in Royal Navy markings.
