I have to admit that I've chickened out of the T.55/T.5 conversion - I tried to mark stuff out last night and it's just more than I fancy taking on

Stuart (The Chicken)
It's not that tough really, Stuart. I have done the reverse successfully and have the parts ready to do the T55 to T5 conversion one day.

The Airfix fuselage is a little wider than the Mbox one so I'll probably sand some plastic off the mating surfaces of the Airfix tank. Also, I part out narrower so it fits between the roots of the tailplanes. I think if I did it again, I might not need to do that and just cut ahead of the tailpane roots..

I made a start on the cockpit today and 'adjusted' the awful kit seat so that it has a decent headbox and is positioned more correctly in the cockpit - higher and more forward.

Image

This silver one was not intended for this SB but I started it so I'll share it here. It's another of my Airfix F1A/F3 kits depicting a Lightning without its belly tank fitted. They rarely flew that way but it did happen and there are pics!

Image

It has the belly tank cut out and plastic tube in its place. It looks OK in the above pic but will need a lot of PSR.

Having looked at my parts, I see two different pairs of wheels - I'll show a better picture later so someone can tell me which to use. The instructions say nothing.

In anticipation; you should have one set with big round holes around the periphery - I think I can see those in the plastic bag in your photo on page 1 - and a set with holes more like slots, lots of slots.
The wheels with the large round holes is for a T5 and later Marks, the wheels with slots are for the early birds.
Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

The FROG Lightning is the same as the old Hasegawa Lightning F.6.

Good on you chaps!

I've retrieved my F.6 from the loft, space has opened up as I have finished the Zuikaku today. Will start soon. Can't do my favourite 92 Squadron as they didn't use the F.6 but will try another squadron.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Just making out my first shopping list for 2017, a few lightnings seem to have made their way onto it.

Can't you build it as an F2A? They flew that and externally they are almost identical.

I think the only external differences were cannons and a very small intake on the spine but I do not claim to be an expert!

I think you're probably right, I'll check my books and the MDF on the lightning. Going to bed now, got to be up at five and it's nearly 10.30pm.
