Nice! So is the same as the F.3 kit but with a different tail?lancfan wrote:The Airfix Lightning F.1a has arrived and will take it's turn on the bench to be converted into the P.1b Xa847 when the Sword Lightning F.1a is complete.

Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
Bung it in Marky, this is an SB so there's no end date as such - we keep going until we all finish, get bored or one of us snuff's it!MarkyM607 wrote:I've been building a VG/swing wing lightning which I totally forgot to post. It's the Airfix NT Lightning F.6 with the Freightdog Models VG conversion set. Very easy set to prepare and use, just needs a bit of dry fitting and testing as far as the wing root joining the fuselage is concerned Will post asap....
(Actually I thought we had finished the SB, not sure why?....
cheers

Actually the opposite Stuart, the F.1a kit came first in 1963 and was converted to a Snap'n'Glue kit in 1981. In 1988 it was retooled with a new fin to become the F.3a and it was finally retired in 2006.Sir T wrote:Nice! So is this the same as the F.3 kit but with a different tail?

As promised, here is my single seat VG Lightning. Although the official manufacturer models showed a two seater, the Freightdog kit is for the Airfix F.6 so that is what I have used. It does make the Lightning look very big...
Still have the green to go on, thinking of making it a whiff Lightning F.Mk.7, 92 Squadron.

Well, it's certainly a Lightning but what a difference!

It certainly changes things!. The wings almost look too big but maybe a two-seater would make them look less so. Might use my last Matchbox T.55 to make this other version. (as long as Freightdog keep making the set).dwomby wrote:Well, it's certainly a Lightning but what a difference!

Will be returning here very soon and I have bought another kit to add to the pile- the Sword Lightning F.3.
Just out of curiosity- can the Short SB-5 be allowed here? it is part of the story but it was not actually a Lightning, just a subsonic layout demonstrator for the P.1a, built to settle an argument between RAE Farnborough and Salmesbury.

I like it. Lightnings look good in all the varied schemes they wore, don't they?

Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
Thanks Gents - here are some better pictures.
The Lightning F.3 for the Lightning SB has been finished (finish number two for this year!). I'm not very happy with it and there's a lot of stuff I'd redo if I had the chance, but it looks ok on the shelf.
Cheers
