E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
My F.6 is nearly done (which is good as the Halifax for the Matchbox GB needs a space!!), I couldn't find the ventral fin so made a new one (it still didn't show up so I assume the Capret Monster has properly digested it). I did find the second of two Red Tops however so she is fully armed. Pics later.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Some minor progress but they're beginning to look more like Lightnings now. What a fantastic looking aircraft this was.
The silver one had a poor port wing fit for some reason. So it's filled with red car body putty and is drying.
These will continue here but I need to decide what to build and make a start on the MBox GB.

Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
Finished. A bit of a 'build to the kit' build but it looks good, mainly due to the colour scheme!!. The panel lines and detail are raised and a bit smudgy, might be later in the use of the mould. But it goes together well.

(sorry, still can't work out how to get bigger pic but it's way faster than the old way!).

Ooooh, I like that.
Great choice of color scheme and sitting very impressively on a wonderful Frog Skybase doing what Lightnings did best. They were spectacular (and spectacularly noisy) airshow stars.

Thank you!, I thought the skybase dictated that the Lightning be posed like that!.dwomby wrote:Ooooh, I like that.

Very nice, posed in a reheat climb- just how I like to remember them.

The P1a airframe is now painted and it's time to apply the decals.

And it's a local product, both aircraft survive, they flew from an airfield not many miles from where I live and I often drive past the factory en route to the M6 Motorway when working.

This is how she looks ATM, the wings are still dry fitted but I cannot find the stencils I need for this so I have ordered the Xtradecals Lightning Stencil sheet to solve the problem, until it arrives I shall make a start on the Sword Lightning F.1a.

Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
The sprues for my Sword Lightning F.1a have been washed and it is time to begin, following the instructions I have made up the nosewheel bay/radome fairing, the instructions tell you to fit the noseweight inside this but there really ain't an awful lot of room in there so before I close up the fuselage I will epoxy a pair of steel nuts behind the cockpit as I did for the P.1a.
The resin seat came next which was painted and the etched firing handles were cyanoe'd in place, despite the comprehensive selection of etched parts in this kit Sword did not include the seat harness so this was made from Tamiya tape. The seat was then sawn free of the pouring block and cleaned up to fit the cockpit tub, the cockpit was then made up using the kit etched parts

Nice cockpit. My F1 is the old Afx kit. Seat, pilot and that's it but that suits my building style.

Superb looking work David and David - those are all looking great.
I'll be interested to see how that sword kit fits together.
