Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
To show my commitment and support for this venture;
My kit.
I got this for £1 in the SMW Kitswop - in 2012!. It had no box or instructions and rubbish decals. I managed to get Hasegawa instructions and I have sheets of a/m decal schemes. This may be a Novo or Hasegawa/Frog issue of the F6.
That dark plastic is going to be fun [not] to paint over.
I've acquired a few other bits to add to this kit; the canopy is a bit frosty so I have a vac one, some resin burners and the cockpit parts from a newer Airfix kit. I have an Aeroclub MB seat and wheels set for this as well, but the Airfix seat might just do the job.
After this I'll mark progress in my work bench thread.

I hope to get started on it soon.

Time to dig out the English Electric P.1a kit and parts ready to begin.
Here are the Aeroclub kit parts.
Along with the Airfix spare parts waiting to be used with the Vac-Form kit.
David.

Looks like a good kit Fred - it'd be nice to get a few updates in this thread as well so that anyone reading it in the future will get a good picture of all the builds. I will however paste in completed pictures in the OP - so do what suits you best.fredk wrote:To show my commitment and support for this venture;

Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
I'll be using the kit decals on my build as well - amazingly they are actually usable!
(love the blue backing paper!)
This is the scheme I'll be doing - a late Green/Grey camo. Can somebody tell me whose numbers those are call out wise? Are they Humbrol?
Cheers

Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
I had to drill out all of the large pin holes on the fuse to get them to fit together - it was far too tight otherwise. I also had to sand the mating surfaces of both wing parts to get them to fit.dwomby wrote:Yes, Airfix converted the moulds of this to 'snap-fit'. I think it was probably back in the brief Palitoy era of the early 80s. I know they did it to the Angel Interceptor too but don't know what else got messed about this way.
Thanks for tip on parts fit due to the 'snap-fit' changes. I haven't got there yet but plan to soon.

Off-topic; the 1/72 Spitfire 1A, Me109G, Queen Elizabeth figure were converted to 'SnapnGlue'

Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
The first number is the Humbrol enamel colour, the second number with the M or G prefix is the Airfix paint number, so 11/G8 is Silver. Interesting to see these progress as I have two of the F3 partly built. I plan on doing one of each of the box schemes.Sir T wrote: This is the scheme I'll be doing - a late Green/Grey camo. It looks like the FROG kit I am building right now. The 'c' shaped covers around the undercarriage legs are what I have on my kit.fredk wrote:To show my commitment and support for this venture;

Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
I have lost mojo but am trying to get going again.
I shaved the cable ducts off my F3 because they are way undersized and too short for the F3 anyway. Not a major problem but some more plastic than intended came off. Sort of delaminated in small flakes. It will be OK as the replacement cable ducts should cover it but I've noticed this before and the flaking was worse (but I can't remember whcih model it was) so I am mentioning it as a caution to others. I think it just happens on the Airfix stuff moulded in France in this colour (which my wife tells me is grey with a greenish tinge)
You can really see the plastic flow lines in that pic too!

Progress so far, been quite rapid, even though it's an 'older' kit it's fitted together very well. Haven't used any filler yet and the two side fuselage airbrakes fit perfectly!. Sorry for the dark pic, the plastic is almost black!!.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Sorry to hear the mojo's suffering David - I hope you stick with it (even with those flow lines!)dwomby wrote:I have lost mojo but am trying to get going again.

Re: E.E. Lightning SB 'The Lightning Boys!'
I can feel some mojo returning. The half-round strip I need for the cable ducts and the 1/4 tube I hope to use as jetpipes has arrived!
I see what you mean about the fuselage fit because of those 'snap-fit' pins, Stuart. I adopted a different solution to you - I have chopped them down to nubbins. Just enough to align the fuselage halves. I hope to close up the fuselages tomorrow.
Looks like articles I have read are correct - the tailplanes are set slightly too far to the rear. I'll see how easy that is to adjust.
