Hello all and welcome to the English Electric Lightning Shared Build!

This is a Single Type SB, any kit or scale is welcome as long as it’s an English Electric Lightning which started with a discussion here: http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=241&t=14718 and came about from a desire to get things going a bit in the SB forums.

I’ll be kicking off things here in December, but most of our intrepid builders will be joining us in Jan 2017 as a bit of a post Christmas and New Years Mojo builder. We’re allowed up to 8 on an SB, so there are a few spaces left if anyone cares to join in – And there’s no time limit (It’s an SB after all).

I’ll keep a log of whose building what in this first post so that any visitors can see what we’re up to (I'll amend it as people put up their first post):

Sir T (Stuart) - Matchbox 1/72 T.55 & Airfix 1/72 F.3 & Airfix (New Tool) F.2A (Maybe)
jRatz (John) - WhirlyKits 009 1/72 E.E. Lightning T.5
Kitaholic - Airfix 1/72 Lightning F.2A & Sword 1/72 F.1
MarkyM607 (Marky) - FROG 1/72 F.6
Fredk (Fred) - FROG 1/72 F.6
dwomby (David) - Airfix 1/72 F.1A/F.3 multi-build into a F,1, F.2 or an F.3
Lancfan (David) - Aeroclub 1/72 E.E P.1a conversion kit.

Cheers

Stuart

OK, here's my marker ....

WhirlyKits 009 1/72 E.E. Lightning T.5 in resin, whitemetal, vac, decals ... Really looks nice.

A major goal for me is to use this as a "testbed" for the Vallejo acrylic Metallics, that's not one of my strong suits.

Yes, it is now so tempting I think I ought to at least wash the resin so it'll be ready ....
But that may lead to fondling, then a bit here and a bit there .... Aaarrgh, step away.

You need the alarm a friend had on his '94 Corvette.
If anyone got closer than 6 inches a voice would warn 'Step away from the vehicle, if you do not step away within 10 seconds Law Enforcement Agents will be contacted' this repeated until the person was over 6 inches away.
We used to activate it just to run his battery down.
Acting 5 y/o when we were 40

Hello fellow Lightning Boys...

Well here is my 1st entry - Matchbox's 1/72 Lightning T.55, Kindly donated to me by a friend of mines son, which is nice as I have fond memories of this kit when I were a lad and it's not that easy to get hold off.

The only issue with the kit asides from the lack of decals is the missing radome

Image

I'm not sure to get over that at present - I could see if somebody has one kicking around in their spares box or I might be able to knock one up out of balsa using my Airfix F.2A as a guide - I'm open to suggestions.

My Friend also supplied me with this rather nice looking decal sheet - with does have a RSAF option that I could cobble the markings for a T.55 from. OR... I could get an Airfix F.3 kit and do an 'old-skool' kitbash and produce an RAF T.5 (and an F.6 with the left over bits) - Annoyingly I lost out on a kit on ebay today which had a nice looking aeroclub update set with it.

Image

Anyway - Onwards and upwards - I'll get this going soon - I'm REALLY looking forward to this FB. 2017 for me wil be about increasing my RAF jet collection and this'll be a good way to kick it off.

Cheers

Stuart

I have a box of Lightning bits from a conversion using the T.55 and the F.3, I'll see what I've got nose cone wise.
And when do we start again?.
(P.S. I'll be doing an F.6 if that's okay).

That'll be more than ok Marky - We start... Well whenever. I suspect most will be starting in Jan, but I'll be kicking my build off in a week or so.

Cool - I've never seen a FROG Lightning so it'll be interesting to see it built up.
