The aim here is to build any version of the Canberra or B-57 in any scale in any scheme.

So off you go post your chosen subject and progress below. No constraint on how 'started' a kit might be.

Excellent. I'll be building 2 models . One in 1/72 and one in 1/48. Work is giving me all sorts of issues with time right now but I expect things to quieten down by the end of the week.

Although there's a good chance I could be a grandfather by then

So, my two cents worth (actually they cost a damn sight more but I'm not telling the Mrs )

First an Eastern Express B(I) Mk.8 in 1/72nd. It's actually a Frog repop that will be destined for the Classic British Kits SIG display table.




As you'd expect, it's pretty basic but I do have a white metal ejector seat and a vac form canopy to spruce it up a little.


Secondly, a model that I've been wanting to build for ages; the Airfix new tool 1/48th B.2.




I've got an Eduard detail set for the cockpit. It's nice straight from the box but the cockpit is very visible through that big bubble canopy so I thought it would benefit from a little help.

They all look interesting builds.

That 1/48 B.2 will be huge...

So I gave been building the Airfix 1/72 PR9.
It's Dar in the stash for ages. I want to build a 1/48 Canberra st some point and as the 1:72 kits are effectively scaled down 1:48 kits thought this might provide some insight.

Here are some images of the more interesting bits.

First up I drilled the Nav lights and added bulbs with Tamiya paint.



The clear inserts seemed a bit thin compared to the wing. But the wing is a bit over thickness at the tip I added the clear part then sanded the wing tip to the correct thickness polishing the clear part back to clarity with micromesh..



Here you can see the overly thick wing tip at the panel join also I filled some sink marks.

Another correction is the fin fairing needs a bit of reshaping I just followed advice of the web in this and made the angle of sweep a bit better.



The fit of the nacelle and Jet pipes needs a bit of fettling I'd read these were horrid but with trim fit trim undertaken they were ok in the end.



I painted and washed the engine fronts.



And added a heap of nose weight..



Then added the Bomb bay / camera insert which needed a bit of a filler shim.



Finally most of the airframe is constructed...



It's subsequently been primed and fettled further.

I found this in a LMS heavily discounted at the weekend.

B-57s everywhere

That B-57 is a pretty chunky kit. The fuselage 1/2's are really thick... I'm 50/50 of building it as a RB-57 or regular B-57B in SEA colours...

Ha I didn't realise my builds have that effect in folk.. I'll moderate them in future.

I'm heading for the loft to get my Lightning for that SB, so I'll dig out my B-57, unless it's in the cupboard in the modelroom/bedroom!!. I also have the B.2 1/48th Airfix kit shown earlier so maybe.... Unless it's becoming a worrying trend to do the same kit in which case I won't. Build it that is.
Disclaimer: I'm a bit tired and harassed so this may not make snese.

Time I made a start so on we go with the 1/48th Airfix kit.

And starting with the cockpit, it's pretty nice straight out of the box.




But I want to spruce it up a bit using these.




An Eduard Zoom set and a Pavla resin ejector seat so the moulded on detail had to go.

Everything fitted quite well into the left hand fuselage side although care had to be taken with the assembly sequence, something not alluded to in the instructions




This was followed by a coat of matt black for the cockpit interior. The kit instructions recommend this colour for the bomb bay and u/c bays too but I have my reservations and will reserve a decision on those for later.




A feature of note on this kit is how thick the styrene is on the fuselage halves. It won't need any internal reinforcing, that's for sure.


And then it was on to the photo-etch. Initial fumblings were quite positive.



But this optimism was short-lived. I'm a big fan of Eduard's colour etch products and I've used a few of them but this one is certainly not one of their better efforts. I'm not convinced of it's accuracy and I spent a couple of highly frustrating hours trying to get the throttle quadrant together before coming to the conclusion that the slots weren't wide enough for the levers . Then I gave up, chopped the levers into individual pieces and glued them in from the top. And, like all their other "Self Adhesive" sets, this one needed glue

These and other issues made it quite a time consuming set to fit, and it's still not completed. I'm not sure if it would have been quicker to go for painting the original kit parts but it doesn't look too bad so far.




And finally the seats.

Work is progressing quite well on these and I should have them ready to install pretty soon.
