I'll get started on my B-57. It was in the model room cupboard- with all of my other Canberra's!.
(How late can I start before it's not classed as a Festive Season build? )

This is my entry, the old Airfix B-57. I had one of these in my collection about twenty years ago but it fell from it's high shelf and as I tried not to step on it... I stepped on it!. . So this one will be all black with red markings rather than the one shown on the box.


The seats in this one are armchair dimensions, although they fit the pilots well they are very wide!. Unfortunately I glued the pilots in them before taking a piccie to show.

Some good progress on the cockpit.
I agree the fuselage 1/2's are very thick on the 1/48 kits.

Don't worry about the Festive season bit. Just make a start.

Looking forward to seeing B-57 commence.

More done to my 1/48th B.2

The cockpit is finished and noseweight added.












The navigator's window was fitted with superglue and flush polished.




Then the fuselage was joined together and filled.




Progress so far is lots of sub-assemblies.




It should start to look like an aeroplane soon.

What do you do when the nose weight drags it off the table, heading for the center of the earth ? Wow !

It advised 100g in the instructions. There's about 140-150 in there. I tried weighing a couple of lead strips and they only came to 80g so I thought I'd err on the side of caution.

Looking good. I prefer this version to the one with the offset canopy.

Me too. It looks right although, by all accounts, it was less than satisfactory in service. The canopy acted like a heat collector making the cockpit akin to a solar thermal oven especially in some of the warmer places the aircraft was operated. There are pictures of them with makeshift sun screens erected over the top of them on the flightline. The later fighter style crew accommodation wasn't so good either with the crew either freezing or boiling. From what I've read, the best solution was the American one with the tandem fighter cockpit but this wasn't adopted by any other user.

Roofing lead. Just some offcuts I had left over.

The B.2 is all buttoned up and has wings and tailplanes attached.





Also, the rear compartment roof widow has been polished back flush to the fuselage.

That B2 is looking very nice indeed. I agree on the nose weight. It pays to have more than enough with canberras.

My PR9 is very nose heavy... about 75g in there which does the job in 1/72..

Speaking of which... I pushed on and finished her up today.











All up an ok build the kit is ok but the panel lines are a bit 'heavy' for my tastes.. It doesn't need any panel wash..

I'm not familiar with that scheme, is that "barley" over something? What paints did you use ?
