Well I've just about got enough progress to warrant an update.
The landing gear and tail hook are painted, weathered and installed, the radial engine plug is painted black, dry brushed silver and in place, the gun barrels are painted just out of shot and the first decal is on.
Image
I've decided to slow right down with decalling and just do one at a time in order to achieve an almost painted on effect, in the pic above you can just see were the decal has sunk in.

Just thought I'd stop by the Shelf of Doom SB to have a nosey round and I'm glad I did, that is a great looking Corsair, Mav!

Thanks Lads!
Im really enjoying this one now I've sorted the problems out with my airbrush.
The wing roundles are on and the wing cannons are installed and painted silver.

Thanks fellas!
Here's the picture for the last update.

Note that I've also taking the canopy masking off.

I built MB´s Corsair in the midnight blue livery from the box art - still have nice memories of it.
It must have fallen from the shelf one day - it hasn´t survived for very long time.... :frown:

My mojo really itches me right now - but I must restrain myself, real life is calling!
(I´d love to go on with my half-finished Mustangs!)

Yeah it is a great kit Crash!
Shame it fell from the shelf but Im sure one day you'll come across another!
Well since my last pic post I've had the same issue with life getting in the way but mine concerns both work, a demanding daughter and a very pregnant SWMBO!

Looking good, Mav and that is a tidy bit of masking on the canopy!

If I´d be busy that much, I think I would hardly find any more time for modelling.
I don´t plan to have kids - "too much work"
Well, I have a godchild, I feel responsible for.
But she don´t live in my flat, I´d be too afraid she´d go damage my models ;-)
(She lives about 200 miles from my place, so this is out of question, anyway.)

Now I remember something about RN Corsairs: weren´t the wingtips chopped off, because RN carriers had less hangar space, than USN carriers? Dunno if it was done on all RN Corsairs, though?
It makes them look a bit ugly, though.
Me, I don´t follow historic examples "by the textbook" - my Skyhawk got a blue anti-dazzle paint job, instead of a sea grey one!

I just checked: there were British Corsairs with un-clipped wings, so you can save time...;-)

Not a lot of modelling goin on for the rest of February on my part....
my next two victims are both ex-doomed Mustangs: I´ll try to work on both of them at the same time, because they´ll get a very similar camo: OD over NG, with main difference being the invasion stripes, on one of them.

Here a pic of the state they´re in now:
Image
...not so much left to do, before putting colour on.
Makes me wonder: What made me stop finishing both of them?
"Back in those days", I rather started another kit, instead of finishing one!
On the left side, the one with wishy-washy panel lines, is a Mistercraft B/C Mustang, which is a cheap copy of the Hasegawa kit, on the right side a Hobby Boss B/C, with a Malcolm canopy from another MisterKrap Mustang!
I show you why:
Image
Hobby Boss try on the Malcolm hood sits on the wing: very ugly looking, far too bulbous.
That´s why I grabbed my knife, to make Misterkraps canopy fit, which looks more the part.
I plan on doing Hurry Home Honey, with this kit:

The other one becomes one "Bull Frog" from the Pacific theatre:

The Hobby boss B/C Mustang is a so-so kit, I wouldn´t recommend it, only if you can get it cheap, but still, I´m not making it completely OOB, it´ll get a "landing light":
Image
shaping this up, might end with some cut up fingers....
Image
This kit has some annoying shape problems, the fuselage aft of the canopy looks STRANGE, has a humpback appearance.
I will NOT build it a second time!
The Hobby Boss D-Mustang has a better shape than this humpback.
(I still must learn not to do too much for kits, that don´t really deserve it)
