Airfix Spitfire PR XIX 1/72 -- AndrewR & Narayan
Re: Airfix Spitfire PR XIX 1/72 Now building!
I don't have 'free' time...I have 'get it while you can! Going cheap!' time.

This evening I managed to airbrush the tips of the prop with white primer while waiting for the basmati rice to cook
Equally importantly I found the kit canopy which I had put in that semi-mythical "Safe Place".
It's progress Jim, but not as we know it.
Cheers

Prop tips masked and primed!?!
And there's me just slapping on the yellow and then painting on the black.
Diff'rent strokes indeed.

Bruce

The Vallejo acrylic yellows do not cover well with anything other than a white primer, so it's necessary. One of the downsides of acrylics.
I've also found that I get a much better look to the prop if I mask and airbrush than try to do it freehand. It's one area where I can do better than with the brush.
Here's the progress on both of my current builds, neatly encapsulated in one picture. Actually there's a third build there, a Revell SE5a, which has been dragged out for yonks.
The yellow might need a second coat. The silver should be okay. The VA metallics are very good indeed. At least I have the canopy on now and the frames painted. With any luck, that will mean moving on to decals in short order.

No, I have to, to get anything done at all At least I didn't try airbrushing while making the curry...Dirkpitt289 wrote:The art of multitasking isn't lost on you...
I do find having more than two "active" builds on the go is more than I can manage easily!

OK, this one is all set. I do like this kit, it goes together very well. The pru blue is a great colour and I like the Swedish Air Force option.

Yes, that is great multi-tasking Andrew, together with handwritten notes - very impressive. I tend to use the stalling technique backed up with a Shelf of Shame upon which stalled projects can stare accusingly back at me until I take pity and recommence working on them. I can only deal with one at a time I'm afraid!
Very nice Narayan and I agree, it does look good in Swedish markings.

That looks very nice Narayan. The PRU Blue and Swedish markings look very photogenic...

The post-it notes are used for notes, then masking, then as a palette for CA glue, and end their days as part of the terrain in a base.ShaunW wrote:Yes, that is great multi-tasking Andrew, together with handwritten notes - very impressive. And in thrilling news this afternoon, I made a bread.and butter pudding, and put three decals on the Spitfire...
You can see two of them here, the other is under the wing.
Cheers

But then later on I was able to finish the decalling. There are no pictures of the bread and butter pudding though. We ate it.
One of the tail-wheel doors fell off during decalling. Fortunately I was using the white table, so blue painted plastic shows up really well!
Then I unmasked the canopy and the propeller. The prop assembly is just blu-tacked on at the moment. The stand is one from a set of three Ikea candle holders. You get three of different heights for $5. I haven't figured out how to attach the model securely yet, a bit of blue-tack again at the moment.
The prop needs a couple of very minor touch ups to remove a little silver from the blades, which are the Panzer Grey primer. It gives a nice dark effect without being too black. It's good for tyres too.
The pitot tube and aerial need attaching, and a little weathering applied.
cheers

A nice looking pair of Spits.
Given that so few historically-accurate schemes are available, it seems that whiffing might be the way to go for this lovely aircraft.
