A nice looking pair of Spits.
Given that so few historically-accurate schemes are available, it seems that whiffing might be the way to go for this lovely aircraft.

As a reminder on the stand front;

The stands haven't made it over here yet!

There is the post-war NMF finish too, but that seems to be it, unfortunately.

Cheers

Andrew

I've only bought my stands direct from Airfix.
I wonder how much they charge, to send them your way and if I could do it cheaper?

Thanks for the offer Merlin. I am in contact with an online retailer who can get them at a discount, and seems to get a good postal rate too. I'll, er, keep you posted. :-D Fortunately I picked up a few Frog and Matchbox boxings last week which have stands. :)

Cheers

Andrew

Thanks Narayan

Here we are after a coat of satin varnish on the topsides. I'll give it another coat tomorrow.

I should be finished by the end of the week. Famous last words.

cheers

Andrew

A second coat of satin varnish on the topside. The crowd goes wild. Not.

Norton backup was doing its thing yesterday, so I couldn't get any pictures up. I'll try to get some close-up shots today. :)

One question, Andrew...how many coats will your Spit have received, by the time it's finished?
Mine had 4...2 coats each of H230 and H165 and two coats of Klear.

Regards,
Bruce

One coat of primer. Two coats of PRU (ish) Blue, and two coats of satin varnish., so 5 altogether. I like to leave the primer and varnish to dry overnight. The paint could be done in one airbrush session, as it dries pretty quickly.

There's not much time overhead on the airbrush cleaning, as it takes about 5 minutes to strip it down, clean in the ultrasonic bath, and reassemble. It wouldn't be that much different if I was brush painting the acrylic.

I still have to put the varnish on the undersides. :)

cheers

Andrew

Inching along...

Uppers now satin-varnished. :) The undersides have also had a coat, with another one to follow tomorrow.

Here's the close up of the Pavla exhausts you wanted Merlin...

Image

They are much less spindly than the kit exhausts, and you can even see little "holes" in the ends. Quickboost do a similar thing, so you don't have to buy the full Pavla upgrade set. It's probably the only resin upgrade I would consider for the kit.

cheers

Andrew

Nice work Andrew. Those Pavla exhausts set it off nicely - easier than drilling out all those annoyingly small 1/72 exhaust stubs!

In terms of exterior fittings, it's about the only thing in the kit which needs sorting (apart from the canopy, if you want to pose it open, especially).
