My build will be that of a RU-6A Viet Nam era. A DHC product with a variety of antennas added. Keeping an eye out for Beaver on the thread.

Adding that I will be using the Migrant's great piece on building the airfix kit (wonderful) and a few internet pictures of Army beasties along with Merlin's magic.

Having just taken sprue shots, my camera batteries died and they'll now re-charge overnight and I'll load up the sprue shots tomorrow morning.
My example is a relatively recent release, coming as a part of the Civil Aviation set of Beaver, Heron and Trimotor. Weird set, tghis one, given the abundance of military decals for Beaver and Trimotor.
So my kit has some slight flash and I imagine I might work on some of the smaller pieces, so as to refine them a little.
Looking at the parts, I was transoported back to being 11 again and spending ages trying to decide whether to go wheels, or floats, or wheels and skis...
This time, its 'just' wheels for the Army Air Corp.
Having said that, unlike when I was 11, I can now get a second model whenever I want, so one with floats may follow at sometime in the future.

Regards,
Bruce

Ok here we go.

The Boxart: When model companies had to prove what was in the box. Oh, well yes, we still had to make the bloody thing.

My plastic is moulded in a greyish-green color.

Decals appear the same over the years.

The RU-6A was used primary for recon work. Listening to Charley mostly. But the U-6 airframe served the US Army well in many roles. In as much as I have a strong feeling for anything Army Aviation the RU-6A will be my choice in the OD with subdued lettering. My friend from flight school flew these and O-1's during the SEA fracus while I migrated to helicopters (UH-1 community).

So my actual build will start later today after work. Of course, Merlin will be finished by then. :ha:

(Keeps talking to self: "This is not a Blitzbau...this is not a Blitzbau...this is not a Blitzbau..." ;-)

I can confirm that the supplied pilot is appropriate...H31 suit, plus H116 life preserver-type thingy...olive green hat, so H155, although H117 would also do. There should also be two crew.
My example is going to be in-flight, on a proper Airfix stand. This means that I don't have to spend too much with the internals, although that provided is very good and could be nicely tarted up and shown off with an open cabin door.

Bruce

I preferred the original art work and never did really go for the finished-model-on-the-lid boxes. This shared build thing is an interesting concept and I suppose we'll see from this whether we all get confused with the single thread idea. I never built this kit in my yoof for whatever reason (probably the lack of guns and bombs!) and I look forward to seeing your joint efforts as you both beaver away (sorry, but I couldn't resist a rather sad attempt at a joke there).

Here is a couple of reference shots shots of the RU-6A. Clear plexiglas triangles on the wingtips to show position lights as on.
A multitude of antennas are visible.

Flight crew wearing the SPH4 flight helmet and nomex two piece (top-bottom) flight suit. The cool look was to wear your American Optics sunglasses under a clear helmet visor.

Do you have any colour...sorry...'color' call-outs for the interior?

And Shaun...any more from you like that and I'll lodge a complaint and I won't give a damn who gnaws it! ;-)

Question for you Merlin. Was your jump seats short shot. Compared to the instruction sheet mine are.

Wing pieces are together now. When I can I skip ahead.

Press on, McDuff.
