Good stuff!
I was thinking that when you finish, you should each do a list of problem areas and solutions. It would round off the build nicely and act as a reference for others.
Cheers

Merlin, super glue on the glass and sand smooth? I can do that. Answer please before I commence.
So as of last night the fuselage halves are together an clamped.
Send in the Disaster Relief. When putting the pieces together I noticed that the floor board was a little to proud. Out with the sanding stick and rub away. Well, it a fit of whatever I bumped the contorl column and away it flew to who knows where. I heard it hit a box top setting on the floor. The hunt begins.
I don't think I have a list of issues regarding this kit at all. That is so far. It assembles nicely with care given to pieces as you go. And I guess we should be doing that always.

I superglued the interior surface of the fuselage and then pressed in the 'glass'.jssel wrote:Merlin, super glue on the glass and sand smooth? I can do that. Answer please before I commence.
From the outside, in places, there's a small gap which was...er... ...erm...filledwithpaint...AND OOOH LOOK OVER THERE!

If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?

Those must be our Shared Build Banners.
Well last night I was able to complete the fuselage. Added the landing gear struts and got some filling and sanding done.
Here is the engine with the wash added to the cylinders.
The engine had what I thought was a flashed over hole for the prop shaft. Not on your life. I had to drill a hole all the way through. Very strange. Did you have that, Merlin?
I thought the fuselage top piece fit nicely with only the minimum of seam work to clean.
Today I hope to add the control linkages and hinges to the wing and get that mounted.
So, I have been a "busy well you know.......little beaver."

Could be appropriate, given that Beavers work together.jssel wrote:Those must be our Shared Build Banners.
Can't say I did. The stand slot was flashed over, but that's normal. I think you had more sink marks than mine as well.jssel wrote:The engine had what I thought was a flashed over hole for the prop shaft. Not on your life. I had to drill a hole all the way through. For my model, I have the H116 Dark Green and H29 Dark Earth on, but it's now taking its time to dry.
I'm using the time to map out the antennae farm and to review the addition, or not, of a black anti-glare panel and day-go orange patches.

Bruce

Here we go with another installment.
Wings to fuselage after the hinges etc have been added to the underside. It may be better to mount them after the wing is mounted as there are a lot of pieces for big fingers to bump into.
Engine crankcase painted gloss grey and inside of the cowling is now aluminum. Pieces 49 and 50 on the lower starboard wing are unknown to me. It appears that they are possible white phosphorus rocket launchers but the US Army U-6's I saw didn't have them at least to my memory. Well, I put them on anyway.
I am liking this build a lot.

Re: Airfix 1/72 de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver - 05.09.12
I put all of my tiny bits under the wings before they were attached...and still needed tweezers. I know I didn't when I last built the kit.
49 and 50 are stores pylons. I read somewhere that these could appear on either wing, or both, although just a pair on one wing was the norm, 'just in case'.
Biggest external difference between yours and mine is that, of all the US military machines I've seen, none have that fin pitot. I mistakenly removed mine and swapped it for a finer piece of stretched sprue. Then I noticed an aerial wire attached to its tip! Interesting times with the rigging thread.
Time to stick a progress pic up, or two.
Regards,
Bruce

Coming along nicely Jeff. Looks to be a somewhat challenging build.

Good progress Jeff - I see that you've got the wings on and I presume, therefore, that Bruce will have finished

Thanks guys. Oh I'm quite sure Merlin is done but tbis is not about speed. It's about sharing build ideas. For me outside of a blitz am in no hurry. Just trying to make a nice model.

Not sure which thread you've been reading to get that impression?Dirkpitt289 wrote:...Looks to be a somewhat challenging build.
Likewise and, as my photos will show, not only am I not done yet, but I remain decided about some finishing details...do I stay oob, or do I add the day-glo prevalent upon later 70's subjects, especially those serving in West Germany?jssel wrote:It's about sharing build ideas. I thought as much...The Rabble Of The Forum wrote:We want Day-Glo! We want Day-Glo!
On the real aircraft, day-glo patches were added as large, self-adhesive vinyl sheets and were prone to wear and tear. Whilst I'll be doing some touching up, I don't need to go OTT.

Very nice Bruce, the antenna fit looks very effective and I'm glad you succumbed to peer pressure with the Day-Glo!
